Welcome to WinMXWorld Lilangel,

now did you get WinMX off our genuine site? Click Here For Genuine WinMX the top option is the complete setup,
if it was another site, it may have the wrong connection patch, an old connection patch or even no connection patch at all,

did you make sure you allowed the popup from your firewall asking to allow/deny? Click Here For Firewall Help
If you are on a router, you need to set up ports to allow WinMX to connect, Click Here For Router Help
what brand of firewall & anti virus do you run? because alot of people have issues with Norton, Clock Here For Norton Help Page
and as you said you was new, Click Here For How-To Set Up WinMX

There should be no reason why you cant connect just follow the steps max has given above & give the information he has requested  to enable us to narrow down the problem and get you up and running

I'm not running a anti virus or firewall. And yes I got it from the archives on here. There is no router. So I have no clue.  :?: :?: :?: :S

lilangel can you please navigate your way to Program Files and find the winmx folder... have a look inside and please confirm whether there is a file named  oledlg.dll

If the file is not present download it below....

http://download.winmxconex.com/oledlg.dll

move it inside your winmx folder and restart your winmx

Ok, the only thing that may help, as you are on windows 98,
you should have a HOSTS file, the default path for it in windows 98 is
Quote
C:\WINDOWS
you should see an ip in there, looks like
Quote
127.0.0.1   localhost
now here you can add UNDER that IP, the winmx IP : 209.150.84.198  www.winmx.com
so it looks like
Quote
127.0.0.1   localhost
209.150.84.198  www.winmx.com
then see if WinMX connects

just a thought, if you are using PeerGaurdian, this maybe why you cant connect, as it actively blocks the WinMXWorld caches.

Are we forgetting the win98 registry fix so that it will read non system dll files ?
