You're not alone. This is the effect of malicious traffic being sent across the network.
A team is working on a fix for this, but it has not been completed yet.
What people have been doing to get around this is; parking in rooms - some use sharguard which allows you to search the users in the room, browsing people from their upload queues, using opennap.
