As you yourself told me on MSN Josh, a 56k dial up user would have to wait about 7 seconds to see the page, multiply that by each page they visit, a recent survey noted that most folks dont bother waiting over 4 seconds for the page to load, thats human nature and we have to try to ride along with it, lets just see what the judge decides anyway, you have entered plenty of pics so you are in with a good chance for sure  :)

No, 7 seconds for that picture to load, the webpage itself loads first, then pictures.

People on dialup are used to slow page loads. They'll always think it's their connection that's the problem :D

Cheers :P

you're also forgetting the CPU usage of the animations (which is a problem for me with how much multi-tasking i do)

although the biggest problem is that it would be a distraction moving around in the corner when you're trying to read something

i always just turn animation (and javascript for that matter) off in all my browsers so ive yet to see joshes animations

for those curious; in opera and the mozilla suite the option to turn off animation is in the browser preferences... in firefox type 'about:config' in the address bar type 'animation' in the filter and then change the entry 'image.animation_mode' from 'normal' to 'none' ... no more distracting spastic ads and no more wasted CPU time on animation.... the pulsing orbs for new entries on the WMW page just show dark for new entries rather than pulse... which looks much better IMO...

er... no offence to you josh... the 'non-animated' versions of your animations look really good... but image sizes of 96k are a bit 'chunky'... and 'tis the season for the phone lines to be freezin' which basically means "56k" isnt... (one machine in the house that has a winmodem cannot connect at all and the 'main' machine with the hardware modem falls back to 24000bps... a lovely 2k/s)

...im definitly glad i installed the squid caching proxy... no matter what machine (on the lan) i use WMW and the wikipedia feels like DSL... its the 'new' pages (the ones squid hasnt seen) that have the typical 'slow-to-load' dialup feel... i know this is basically random information but all the dialup users out there should definitly give squid a serious look... its caching methods are much more intelligent than the cache of a web browser (i even set the browsers to empty their caches on exit to force them to use squid)

This is my first posting in any forum....ever.... so if I screw it up, I'm excused..  :D

Love the entries so far, it's going to be a tough decision.  If gif's are going to be an issue, which it looks as if they may be I would also like to see a static version of those pics please.   Keep rolling those entries in, the more the merrier and good luck everyone :)

PS.   I am open to bribes....oops, did I say that?

The Final Judgement.......Where do I start?

I'll run by them in order that I see them on my screen
Josh...Logo2.png (of 500) heh  ..   effective & not too fussy, I like it.

Josh...Logo4.png (of 600)  :)  .. more colourful but I think No. 1 was more striking

Fun Guest...  This one attracted my attention from the word go...its stylish and definitely one of my 3 favourites.  They say less is more... this is certainly the case with this one.

Me Here... entries 1 and 2.  My preference is with No. 1, its more eyecatching.  This makes me smile every time I look at it, how much fun would one have draping those lights :)

Silver Stripes...  A quick half-attempt!!!  How clever are you!! If this was a general competition for a Company Logo, you'd be a definite winner. If you can come up with something that effective as a quick attempt, I'd love to see your final attempt.  I think your entry (minus the bow) could be used at any time throughout the year on the WinMxWorld Site.

Ghostship... Pud!!  The simple ones are always the best, nothing too fussy and it takes nothing away from the text.

Omega... Very eye catching, I love it!
Pssst... The Christmas Tree on the left is GREAT!!

Josh... entry No. 5 of 2,000,000  :)  .. A definite favourite, again I've been drawn back to this one over and over, its fun!

KM...  Again, simply effective :)

Josh... logo6.gif  Fun! Fun! Fun!  I could watch this one all day

Josh... logo7.gif   I laughed and though of National Lampoon's Christmas Holiday...how much more can one get into a picture?  It would make a great store window display, kids would love it :)

Silver Stripes... Wmwornament.png   As you said...'simple' but clever!

Josh...  final.png.  Store Window :) love it!

Josh... veryfinal.png   I've come to the conclusion that although I love the gif version of this, this static pic is much more stylish.

I am truly impressed with the imagination and effort that has gone into every single picture.  This is so hard for me, I'm torn between 3 entries. Do I choose 'stylish'?, if so then Fun Guest would be my clear winner because I always return to that picture.  Do I choose 'fun'?, if so then Josh would be the definite winner with his animated entries, or do I choose 'feels like home'? if so, then Me Here's No. 1 entry would take the podeum without a doubt.

I'm torn.... so I return to my initial reactions to each picture and there were two particular pictures that I thought; 'Oh, Wonderful' and from that reaction  I now have to choose between two.... Josh's very final picture and Me here's No. 1 entry. Decisions, decisions....and I thought this was going to be easy...
