Could someone tell me why evertime I download a music file (  I have done this on multiple occasions) and then   when I tried to open  the file, it tells me that I cannot open the file becasue the codec in which the file was  compressed and created is not recognized.
I had tried opening the file in both Windows Media Player and MusicMatch juke box and I receive the same message.
What I doing something wrong...

I have a second problem, sometimes the file times out before the connection to download begins and then the file selected turns to red  and I am unable to download the file.
I have checked my Noton Internet Security 2005. My version is the one before the one with the worm function  Full Permission granted to winMX to Norton NIS.
Windows xp firewall is disabled as well as my Fiorewall in my router (belkin)
Any Ideas?

Thanks and have a merry X-mas

I cant say I have come across codecs problems with Music files but I can tell you thats quite common with video files.  Usually simply installing the codecs required by your player fixes this for the videos.

The problem with them turning red is normal.  You will find that some downloads or uploads will turn red.  This comes down to making sure your set up properly and the user who is on the other end of the transfer is set up properly also.  obviously there is not a lot that can be done about the other users.

For your set up I would ask you this. ..are you talking about uploads or downloads?
Do any uploads or downloads ever get through?

If the answer to the last question is no then you may need to forward ports in your belkin router to allow users to access your machine and allow it to act as a virtual server.

If some downloads and uploads are getting through its more then likely your set up is not to blame.

To improve download results have a look at this section on searching and avoiding fakes.

If some uploads get through but most time out then you may also be dealing with an ISP that is filtering or blocking your P2P use.. provide me a bit more info and maybe I can help you more specifically on the time out issues..

Yes some gets through, but when they do I experience the problem I had spoke about earlier.

Thank you for the link for the port forwarding.  I had everthing the same, but I had also entered an seperate entry for the UDP (Port#6257). I would like to add that you must added the private address IP#.

I have altlanticbroadband (cable). Do they limit my P2p??

If you have any additional ideas, let me know.
Thank you

Yes I am aware its nessecery to add the UDP also.. its why i send folks to that link first.. for some reason Portforward.com doesnt realize WinMX uses UDP ...

Cant say I have heard of that one specifically but its usually Cable companies that use the software that shapes P2P use..
The best way around this is to change the ports that you use for WinMx.. this will require you to change the ports in the Router, Firewalls if needed, and WinMX..

Two good ones to try are 1720 TCP and 3389 UDP have worked well for many users ..

There is a list of other ports here:

Let me know how that works out for you..
