incoming folder shared

The beauty of the 3.54 library is that one can have the complete collection hashed and ready for share.
If you make the incoming folder shared and then select all the files it containes and choose 'unshare' the incomplete files won''t be shared anymore. As soon as a file gets complete the library sees it as a new file and makes it shared. As long as you rename the file if necessairy in the library winmx doesnt need to rehash either, which it has to if you put a file in another folder. Use preview and and a good virusscanner though to make shure only good files get shared.

The problem with that is all the new files you are trying to get, though incomplete, would become shared also.

I create an organized tree for my files, for my own use.  I have some folders for specific people.  I have other folders by subject.  I have other folders by file type.  I do not like creating a special 'share' folder.. uses too much space and is harder to keep updated.  So I have one organized library with dozens of folders and tens of thousands of files..  many more files than winmx allows to be shown as shared.  I share from my working folders.  And the new library control system in v 3.54 allows me to share from those folders selectively.

I just had a user with dozens of albumart***.jpg files.   He didn't know where they came from.  I turned on [show full path] and since he was using v3.53 or earlier, I could see the full path including the drive letter.  I told him where to look, in one of his mp3 folders.  Had he been using v3.54 beta 4, 1] it protects privacy and does not reveal the full path and 2] he could have merely enabled sharing .mp3 and disabled sharing .jpg files from that folder.  V3.53 and earlier only allow for global type permissions.  If you enable sharing .jpg files, it is enabled from all shared folders, not just say a picture folder.

v3.54 beta 4 rulez!

FOR ALL THOSE INTERESTED:

Sorry I haven't responded to my original subject :)

Have a new baby on the way and all has been hectic lol

I reinstalled the new patch and everything is ok at the moment.

Looks like a freak event the first time or a system fluke.

I think you have yet another winner KM! Thanx for all your hard work :)

As for the comments on deciding what goes on someone's machine, YOU CAN DECIDE. However don't expect either patch to leave the other one active. They cannot work together. So, if you are petty enough to be upset something didn't ask you first (yet you obviously are aware of how it works because you note the difference in the newer version) then you need to wear a disclaimer around your neck saying "I am looking for simple foolish things to be annoyed at" and then call it a day.

Or, you could just write you own patch with all the bells and whistles you like... Maybe have it tell you that you look beautiful today...

As for me, I will appreciate the work that has been done, and not pick apart someone's effort. The only time you will get a complaint out of me is if there is a serious issue, or a clear cut case of abusing my trust. So far, Something has been written for free for the entire community and it is to help keep us all together. And to my knowledge not a penny has been made by the author or have we ever been sold out. That is integrity at its finest.

So, use which ever patch you like best. And enjoy the community. Nothing is forced on any of us. I just happen to like the additional protection offered by the WinMXGroup patch that helps keep flooders to a minimum.

Best Regards, and Be Good!
