it's likely your internal ip changed, please double check your rules for portforwarding match your CURRENT IP address

I'm having trouble with uploads timing out as well.  I don't want people to think I'm a leech.  I can download just fine, but no one can upload.   I have a cable modem, and the firewall is set to accept WinMx.  I can't do anything as primary though.  Using primary gets me no results, so I'm connected as secondary, and I get great results.  I'd love to be able to share, but they just keep timing out.  I know it's frustrating to those trying to download.

Kathrine can you tell us what firewall(s) your using and confirm that your Cable modem doesnt have NAT.

Confirm by doing this
Start > Run > type in           cmd
CLick OK
In the Black Dos Box type       ipconfig
Hit the Enter key.

Tell us the first three digits of your IP Address Listed there?

In Lu of being able to set up ports you can use WinMX by going to Incoming TCP in settings .. tick Unable
then look at In/Out UDP and do the same.. restart MX secondary and most folks should be able to upload until we can get your problems worked out.  (keep in mind that as we fix this those will need to be reset back to port 6699 and 6257 or your preferred ports later)

That's because you have your winmx set in passive mode, to fix it forward the ports in your router and of course set winmx to listen on them.

Go to www.portforward.com and look up the model of your netgear router for instructions.  Where it goes to settings and asks which ports are set, put in the ports for winmx to use (pick any numbers between 1 and 65535) as yours is currently set to not use any. Then follow the rest of the instructions for forwarding them.

although normally the both users firewalled message shouldn't happen too much, as it will only happen if both users are set as unable to accept connections, and most users are set to listening.

Downlaod turning red is quite normal if say 1 in 10 or 20 go red. but if all or most go red, then it's not a good sign.

A download turning red is usually because:

The user went offline
The user could not be contacted
The user mas moved or changed the file location while you were in queue
The user has cancelled you (this happens rarely, about 1 in a hundred cases for me)
There was a file error

Most of the times, these are the causes, See if your problem fits into any of these. IF all your downloads timeout, then it's mostly a problem of ports or your ISP

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Its a good idea to have the little [ + ] signs beside your downloads set to be [ - ] instead so that you can see the error messages (reasons files stop of turn red) this way you can find out if its you or the user your getting them from.   A full list of the messages you may see can be found here

You missed off "Both users firewalled (red)" from that tutorial which unlike what it SAYS means neither you or the other person has ports open in winmx or forwarded through any routers involved....

there are also some more unusual messages which perhaps deserve a page of theiir own ie a link from that one..

"File error (nn)"  which have various causes according to the specific problem..
