As you know I have given up running the WPN (as you can see from the announcement on winmxgroup.com, and of course the outage on friday)I made the initial announcement and nothing happened, nobody paid attention, so I closed down as I said I would. After several hours they started making the noises of doing something so I temporarily restored the operational side of winmxgroup (caches, blocking, etc - all except the website and update bar anyway) so that users would still be able to to use MX as normal for a short time to give them a chance to come up with something else - to avoid doing too much damage to the user count.Beyond making a few noises at the start nothing has happened, I stated that I would give them a reasonable chance to get something, and 3 days is hardly unreasonable (consider there are a number of people who will admit they have no real knowledge who could have easily sorted out something better than a damn hosts file full of dead caches in 10 minutes)Therefore that's it, you've had a reasonable amount of time to do something and proved yourselves as competent as pie (who also take a week to do a 2 minute job if you remember each of their previous outages) - I shall now be taking it back offline again.I'm sure winmx will last a long time, probably about as long as macrovision can resist shutting you down (because you sure as hell won't be able to deal with even the most basic attack if you can't even deal with something like this in a reasonable time) - anyone taking bets on how generous macrovision will be?As for other non-winmxgroup things, well I had hoped someone else would manage to keep the network running (not looking likely), and I only wanted rid of the task of running the network. However it appears that I have been left no choice in the matter, in the unlikely event that macrovision does allow them to continue it has been made clear to me that any association between winmxworld and myself is to be discontinued, so I guess what you are reading now will more than likely end up being King Macro's final ever post here - don't you feel honoured to be one of those reading it? no? oh well worth a try
A lot of people think that everyone is scared to tell him what they think of him and people think they suck upto him
WinMX Help / Upload/Download Issues / Re: WinMX on: June 30, 2007, 11:58:00 PM I would like to add my thanks to km and the fantastic work he has done in keeping winmx running & wish him all the best for whatever he may turn to in the future .......with that said i hope that a lesson has been learnt here that the responsibility for winmx should never rest on the shoulders of one person..... myself & others have posted & raised concerns on this matter several times in the past, now as predicted there is widespread panic on the future of winmx all over again.Whilst i have no doubt winmx will continue due to the wide array of talent on hand to help in times like this i do hope this is a lesson learnt and responsibility is spread a little further around so as not to pressure any one person into doing something as drastic as this in the future..... I posted before about keeping all your eggs in one basket and although that was not strictly the case a majority of them eggs nestled alongside each other in the form of km..... perhaps in the future there will be a few more baskets for them eggs to nestle amongst so there is no repeat of the last few days panic and winmx can become more stable
