Followup semi-official mini-statement thingy
« on: July 02, 2007, 04:08:25 am »
As you know I have given up running the WPN (as you can see from the announcement on winmxgroup.com, and of course the outage on friday)

I made the initial announcement and nothing happened, nobody paid attention, so I closed down as I said I would. After several hours they started making the noises of doing something so I temporarily restored the operational side of winmxgroup (caches, blocking, etc - all except the website and update bar anyway) so that users would still be able to to use MX as normal for a short time to give them a chance to come up with something else - to avoid doing too much damage to the user count.

Beyond making a few noises at the start nothing has happened, I stated that I would give them a reasonable chance to get something, and 3 days is hardly unreasonable (consider there are a number of people who will admit they have no real knowledge who could have easily sorted out something better than a damn hosts file full of dead caches in 10 minutes)

Therefore that's it, you've had a reasonable amount of time to do something and proved yourselves as competent as pie (who also take a week to do a 2 minute job if you remember each of their previous outages) - I shall now be taking it back offline again.

I'm sure winmx will last a long time, probably about as long as macrovision can resist shutting you down (because you sure as hell won't be able to deal with even the most basic attack if you can't even deal with something like this in a reasonable time) - anyone taking bets on how generous macrovision will be?

As for other non-winmxgroup things, well I had hoped someone else would manage to keep the network running (not looking likely), and I only wanted rid of the task of running the network. However it appears that I have been left no choice in the matter, in the unlikely event that macrovision does allow them to continue it has been made clear to me that any association between winmxworld and myself is to be discontinued, so I guess what you are reading now will more than likely end up being King Macro's final ever post here - don't you feel honoured to be one of those reading it? no? oh well worth a try :-P

Thanks KM for everything! Now you will be able to relax and have more liberty!

I hope we will see you sometimes as a guest!

Well, KM, I would like to say thank you for all the work you have done with WinMX.
However, all good things must come to an end, and for you KM with WinMX, that time is now. :(
As the WinMX community is very strong (we all know that) I'm more than sure we will all get back on our feet again soon.

Enjoy your free time, and the fact that you wont have Vladd on your case! =)

(PS - Don't leave the forums though, your presence is welcomed :D)

^ What they said. That's life, and everyone has to eventually step away no matter whether they are the boss or the guy scrubbing the toilets.

Thank you for all of the hard work that you put into keeping everything up and running, and best of luck in whatever it is that you chose to do next.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

Cheers KM - thanks for everything and best of luck.

I do hope the hosts are not all simply dead caches as you suggest tho.

I have read this and things spring into my head and im not sure where to leave them...so am going out on a limb and putting them here....people might hate me for it but hey not everyone can love me right ? ;)

First of I aswell would like to thank KM for his efforts made in the past and all the work he has done for WinMX....im sure everyone will agree with me on this part !

But then :S  i read the post and it almost makes my stomach turn in disbelief....why the arrogance ? why is it written the way it is ? Is KM so much better then anyone else on WinMX ? Should we feel honoured to read his last post ? What about the good people left behind ? are they to be forgotten because the might KM has left the building ? im very sorry KM but u should get credit for all your work....i will not argue you on that and i feel you are entitled to your free time and your own life however this does not mean you can belittle people simply because you feel u have that power...so u might be smarter ? so u might know more ? so u might fix things quicker then the next person ? this does not grant the power of the almighty now does it ?  You would like to be respected for the work you have done and the efforts you have made....treat people respectfull and you will get respect back...I for one am very sad you posted what you posted...it could have been done differently......with more respect and less arrogance....treat people as u would like to be treated yourself....it will get you further in life then pushing people away and kicking them down. at the end of the day the people that you put down so harshly in your post are the people who are working so hard to keep this thing going...i think a little bit of respect from your part would be in order as well....and no i dont know u that well or you me for that matter but i felt it was worth mentioning anyway....we all like to be treated with proper regards and respect just like you...and on that note i would like to wish you good luck and thank you again for all that you have done in the past !

Km i will be debted to you for the rest of my life forgiving me winmx over these last nearly 3 years. But now it is time to move onto better things, Others have done so already, I am also. Winmx has been a great dream and a great place to meet friends, But in times of desperation you soon realise who your friends are, An this game their is none. Good luck winmxworld running winmx. An good luck KM. I know after all of this is forgetten and put to bed ive gota  friend indeed, not a friend in need.

Yep, thanks for your hard work KM.

Alot of people think alot of good and bad things of KM. He sometimes does post in a way that people would take offence.

That is probably why he is one of the most liked and hated on winmx.

Alot of people think that everyone is scared to tell him what they think of him and people think they suck upto him.

I dont think people are like that, i just dont think they wanna be banned from Winmx World because they said what they thought of KM. I am one of those people.

But that does not mean i do not appreciate his hard work over the years.

Got that dead right & judging by the reactions or lack of them by certain people here to the statements made by km it would seem that still applies even now,as only alice has actually dared to give an opinion on what is so obvious  to anyone reading the statements that have been made

as i posted elsewhere

I would like to add my thanks to km and the fantastic work he has done in keeping winmx running & wish him all the best for whatever he may turn to in the future .......with that said  i hope  that a lesson has been learnt here that the responsibility for winmx should never rest on the shoulders of one person..... myself  & others have posted & raised concerns on this matter several times in the past, now as predicted there is widespread panic on the future of winmx all over again.

Whilst i have no doubt winmx will continue due to the wide array of talent on hand to help in times like this i do hope this is a lesson learnt and responsibility is spread a little further around so as not to pressure any one person into doing something as drastic as this in the future.....
I posted before about keeping all your eggs in one basket and although that was not strictly the case a majority of them eggs nestled alongside each other in the form of km..... perhaps in the future there will be a few more baskets for them eggs to nestle amongst so there is no repeat of the last few days panic and winmx can become more stable

something that should also be remembered is

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

As has been shown over the last few days at least
