BPI: UK Music Revenues Up 2.3%, But P2P Still a Problem

British Phonographic Industry (BPI) lauds record labels for “innovating in the digital world and developing new revenue streams,” boasting increased overall revenues, but insists that illegal file-sharing is still a problem that must be “tackled.”

Leave it to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) to congratulate record labels for creating innovative new ways to increase overall revenue while simultaneously arguing that the govt needs to do more to help it survive.

According to the BPI, total recording music industry revenues for 2009 were £1.12 billion ($1.8b USD), a 2.3% increase from 2008. This is on top of last year’s declaration by Will Page, Chief Economist for PRS for Music, a UK-based royalty collecting group, that total music industry industry revenues are up 4.7% since 2007.

All this while many of the paying public have either had no pay increase, a pay cut or lost their job.

And they still won't give the public what they want...

an Album is published, and some nameless expert decides what would be good on a single, so they offer that too...
I wonder what would be the effect if they made the whole album available, for pay-download, on a track by track basis?
What you think is important is rarely urgent
But what you think is Urgent is rarely important

Just remember that...
