Hi tarl,

Welcome to the forum..

Your new DSL modem probably will need to be configured to allow the ports through that WinMX uses.  Basically the instructions for these are the same principal as a router.

So the first step is to have a look here for some help on getting started:

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

Read that through and follow the links it gives you for Portfoward.com site to do the actual forwarding.

Then let me know if you have any ?s about any of it..

Tarl,

When you set up your ports did you make sure you set a rule for UDP seperately from the TCP?

Also do you have Norton 2005 installed?
If you do go to Options > Internet Worm Protection > Control Programs there you should see a place to add WinMX to an allow list and give it Permit All Access.

Okay Tarl,

The McAfee may require you to allow WinMX in order to get the uploads working.  Be sure to have a look here to set that up.

http://firewalling.com/personalfirewalls/McAfeeV6.0FirewallPlus.htm

The other suspect I would look at is the XP firewall as its known to turn itself back on when you least expect it.  Since you have the McAfee I dont see a need for both running.

If you do feel you need that XP Firewall up, then have a look here for instructions on it:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp.html

Also be sure that the UDP port you set in the Modem matches that set in WinMX in Settings > Internet Connections > IN/OUT UDP ..

I did have one other customer of BigPond Cable with this issue but was unable to find much information on whether they may be filtering p2p.

If you try the above and it continues try using different ports, such as in the 58000 range. Remember this means two seprate numbers and re setting the rules in the Modem, firewalls, and WinMX if you change them..

Let me know how you get on..

Tarl,
Another user posted some interesting info and I would like for you to follow this advise and tell me if it works for you.

Quote
I am a customer of an ISP (Rogers in Toronto Canada) that is widely reputed to block p2p traffic by packet inspection. I found good info in the slyck forums. They talked about cable ISPs not blocking port 1720 cuz they use it for home voip services. So, needing another port, I tried port 39 (reserved for "rlp" - Resource Location Protocol) and am happily back up and running, both uploads and downloads.

In short, I set:
IN/OUT ports to Listen on 1720 for TCP
and send and receive on port 39 for UDP.
and I was uploading and downloading for the first time in weeks.

No guarantees, but it worked for me!

ports have to match in winmx, router, and firewalls..

So Yes you will need to add those to your router also.
