We havent been around as long as some of the other WinMX sites, but try hard to offer you the best advise possible regarding WinMX.  I have to say that one of the areas this site ranks 'eh.. ok at' is the OpenNap help.  One of the reasons for this is The Best open nap forum available there is RockMeP2P.  Why not use it?

If you need any help with OpenNap related questions Smitty and the RockMeP2P is exactly what your looking for.

They offer they best advise regarding OpenNap and related issues there are, not to metion some great fun, other p2p help, and some good 'ol bash the RIAA fun also.

Please have a look at this great site and if you need any OpenNap help just post your questions there, the folks there are helpful and very knowledgable!!

The site never seems to open. It comes to a search result page. All of it has nothing to do with P2P
You mentioned that the site might be closed. Has it been closed?
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

OpenNap is not dead !  good thing I found this forum..
I run a fairly-large Slava server with Amber (hashish.ath.cx) motivated by old Napster veterans....
and have done tests with the server software developers.
perhaps I can be of some use here.. I'l try to shed some light on things.

cheers all ! and...long live MX ...and...OpenNap !

OpenNap is not dead !

Yes it is. Look at the stats, there just not there anymore. Users are gone. The same 1000 users are on all the remaining networks. The admins screw it up for everybody by filtering files, and policing everyones activities.

Yes, it is dead.

I myself got tired of the BS, and closed mine down last year sometime, don't remember exactly when, but goodbye forever, lol

winners never quit.
the filtering of files is aimed particularly at pedophilia, torture, rape and racism. why does that bother you?
i haven't hardly ever had my activity policed by some brainy network owner before.  I suppose I would have to behave like a leech.
better look again at those stats, climbing above 2000 on a daily basis, a little more each day. and on my network thats with only one IP per user.
Sorry it didn't work out for you. it still can for others.

come get some tunes on us  :-)
drag and drop this to your winmx desktop icon:

I remember when the opennaps were 10000+ users. Right now on gotnap, the highest amount of users is 1450, on Amber. So I repeat, it's dying, lol

sure, use stats that are up while everyone's asleep on a sunday night.
dead for you maybe.. like I said, not for others. I would call 75,000 Transfers in the last 24 hours very much alive.
by not helping users find their way around on it and pulling services out of anger is exactly what took it down from the tens of thousands to a few thousand.
this is supposed to be a help section, and your negativity certainly is not *helping*
help bring these numbers up by helping others, or please get out of the way...

Guys lets keep this friendly, whilst user numbers have dropped on OpenNap thats only to be expected with no visible forums or folks pushing to keep the network in the public eye and the older generation of operators having done thier bit taking a back seat like yourself Smitty.

With winmx a few years ago we could have all toddled off and yeilded the network to the RIAA,s scalp list, we did not do so and have built up a more resilient userbase of folks who are mostly more hands on in how to keep things running when things look bad, open nap is the same where are the new programs etc that keep folks interested and where are the forums of users to keep the community alive ?

Winmx was based on the early Napster model and evolved and as such many of the useful mx tools, etc are applicable to be used on that network also, but who is there to keep folks informed of such things, enter Smokerillo ?

As long as anyone wishes to keep a network up and running then I say go for it as it really is only as popular as those leading the charge can make it, this means  more information on other clients and set up guides need producing etc plus links to any active nap forums etc, this is the way to halt any haemorrage of the userbase, knowledge is power guys and keeping the community focused and feeding the users with that knowledge always brings the reward of growth and interest.

We have to be wary of the "self fulfilling prophecy" scenario here Smitty, where our own actions cause the situation we predict, but I agree unless someone gets making some noise and recruiting developers to add something new to the mix things will not improve and the Open-nap network will dwindle to a few hard core users sharing files with their freinds.

As I make clear above its fortunes can be reversed, but it needs above all interest by folks and at least one trusted user pushing for activity and development, without an active and viable community the bones of the network will be all that remains, with the hub of a an pro-active community it can live on indefinitely.

Merry Xmas Smitty, miss the tavern  8)

I considered myself a diehard, but even diehards die off. I wrote many a letter to many a congressman, and never got 1 reply. I finally pulled the plug after discovering other ways of getting my kicks on digital media. I do miss Alot of the other regs that were on the scene at that time though.

Things change, people change, and life goes on my friends ;)
