Install 1.9 (.dll patch) Misleading on NT4
« on: November 23, 2005, 12:17:08 am »
From my sample install the installer picks NT (which is in fact the case), & is then unable to connect.

However, if 98/ME is manually selected, the install proceeds & results in a working installation..

Just thought I'd mention it, as it would be far from obvious to try the install for "wrong" operating system.. perhaps the next installer could have the interface ammended to cover this possibility?

I am wondering what was the cause of the failure BB  :?

When you say an NT system do you mean Win2k or XP ?

No doubt KM will read this within 24hrs so I,ll see what he has to say on the matter but I dont see a problem with adding some extra help or instructions into the installer for the problem you encountered if its necessary  :)

Thanks for bringing the problem to light  8)

i never tested the patch on NT 4.0 mainly because it's so outdated that a lot of software doesn't work on it (indeed, winmx was one of those last time i tried it... lol)

probably something to do with it using the same winsock 2 patch that 9x systems use to get winsock 2 support...

oh well, as long as the other patch works on it i guess it's not a major concern :-)  (and NT 4 users should be used to things not working as expected by now :-P)

I am still trying to find a solution that will allow a single version for any operating system, but IE is being a pain...

the problem is that IE is being a pain, when the patch tries to hijack the requests (for the update bar) it is resisting... now of course if it had been trying to hijack it to do something malicious then there wouldn't be a problem, but as it is a legitimate reason it is being as hard as possible to hijack it... :-P
