Reading a few other threads and there is a reference to only being permitted to share 5000 files (I have >8300 in my library). Will this prevent others from uploading from me?

Winmx will only load first 5000 (on a primary) or 3000 on a secondary, I think the others are simply ignored...

If people would turn there firewall off while uploading then check there music before they play it I have 0ver 1200 files I check these even after I have them in my system .my system is working perfect but wont drive through your firewall so spend a lot off time watching people get part of a file
anything I download to my puter is virus checked before i open it all 1200 files so I no I am safe that is why you cannot upload .Gus.

Some firewalls have compatibility troubles if they meet each other & others don't, however, as a general principle running with firewall turned off isn't the greatest idea on earth..

It's always a good idea to check files before sharing them, which is why it's not a good idea to share the incoming folder..

However, it's also a bad idea to trust anyone else's scanning of files.. you should ALWAYS scan downloads yourself, regardless of claims that files are virus free.. There are SOME out there that would say so to deliberately infect your system, no reflection on Gus.. But people write these things with malicious intent, some share them on purpose.

look at your port config.. TCP in particular

Bearded is right you need to look at your TCP, although if you want to run primary ever its necessary to also configure your UDP, its used for browses and pms.
