But wasn't 2008 the year of the GFC, which caused most of us to have less discretionary spending ability?
'Copyright Industry" would simply have lost sales due to that fall in Discretionary Income, but i guess you can demonstrate anything with enough stats
lets see: Newspapers? Sales Down; reason? Book Publishers? Sales Down; Reason (Think Kindle et-al Musicians? Sales (I suggest) flat; Reason? The market is sick of discs full of junk they dont want. Film Writers, Actors, Directors (as a group) Sales Flat; reason? there's a plethora, including GFC effect, but look at some of the junk too. Video Rentals? Sales Down; reason? Who still does that? Broadcasters? Sales Down; Reason? Too busy fighting among themselves for 'Olympic Contracts' and other frippery. Cable TV, Ditto and there's JUNK! Photography? Sales Down; Reason? one word: Digital. etc etc etc.
Are they listening to the market?
I suspect not
now this: the 'industry's' contribution to GDP 9% down to 6.6% means we spend less time on our entertained bums than the americans at 11.1%? Must be all that evil outdoors and beach lifestyle we enjoy
perhaps they should embrace digital more so that they can sell us the overpriced movies to watch on our overpriced iPads while we camp or laze on the beach...
