WinMX Error - crash
« on: December 30, 2005, 07:52:02 pm »
Since yesterday, without changing the whole system, WinMX suddenly showed an error and quit...
Now, I ran WinMX on my other computer, first it went fine, but then it showed the same error.

Now, everytime I start WinMX, in runs for a few seconds, only to show the Error message again (one with SEND ERROR REPORT and DON'T SEND) as well as the Windows Error Report message...

I read through some posts here, and copied the content of the APPCOMPAT.TXT file:

Hi your not alone, and although I cant be sure who is doing the attacking of users at this time its not good at all.. we are having a terrible time determining a common issue that could cause this.. so the best advise i have for now is this:

Rename your C:\Program Files\Winmx to WinMx2
Install the Install 1.9.exe for a 98/ME operating system, this will work fine on XP, however if a user is primary it will NOT block the riaa, they will need to use peer guardian with our block list found here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/block_the_riaa.html

For now this is working, we are unsure if its the ws2_32.dll under attack or winmx 3.54 at this time, although we have nearly 50 or more users with crashing problems we have thousands without it running many different combonations of 3.53 and 3.54 .. thats the best info and advice I can give at this time..

No, you're not alone with this problem, but unfortunately nobody has found a solution yet.
What you can do though, is installing winmx 3.53 which seems to be unaffected.
Just get our Patch if you don't have it already, select installing for Win98/ME regardless of your windows version and you should be fine.
Please remember to run Peerguardian2 with our Block list though to protect yourself and the network :)

Hi! thanks for the quick reply!
OK, I'll see what I can do to get WinMX running again, even if it's only on secondary...
And good luck to you all (to us all) that we soon find a solution
cheers!
