In the rather stupid western style of trying to claim every Idea as something only you thought of, a new copyright law in vietnam is likely to damage traditional arts.
http://english.vietnamnet.vn/lifestyle/2005/12/527481/ Proposed copyright for folk art creates controversy among artists. Nguyen Chi Ben, Director of Culture and Information Institute expressed his opinion regarding the proposal.
According him, copyright on folk art is a domain that we should be very careful with. It is very easy for contemporary literature, since it is written by an exact name, but folk art is not. Its characteristic is having no single, precise creator. Originally, it would be created by someone, but it then becomes common property, so its copyright is not simple. A Swiss copyright expert recently warned that copyright of folk art must be carefully researched, he said.
“Folk art is closely connected with village communities, Quan Ho (Bac Ninh Love Duet) is an example. Currently, 49 villages are considered as its creators and keepers, but as far as I know, Quan Ho includes many melodies from folk music of other regions, including Cheo (Vietnamese Operetta), Tuong (Vietnamese Opera), and Cham music, as discovered of scientists recently.”
This of course has little to do with WinMX, but is posted here soley to reflect the damage greed and selfishness is able to cause in our society under the banner of copyright, a concept that is becoming outdated and detrimental to the world at large.
