My WinMX is flashing me!!
« on: January 05, 2006, 01:11:01 pm »
I'm am using WinMX v354 beta 4 with the 2.9 patch, and Windows XP. I have Norton Personal Firewall, which is configured to allow WinMX all access. Using Port Forwarding through my router, I'm able to have a primary connection.

I typically will enqueue several files to download so I can just set it and forget it. However with this beta version, I'm having some trouble. After I get a fair amount of files lined up, the download window starts flashing and it goes on for a considerable amount of time. It continues to download while this is happening and eventually, it stops flashing. But that can take an hour or so. I have relatively few uploads going on at the time, and they appear to be unaffected by the flashing in the other window. I have tested this with both Primary and Secondary, and it appears that it makes no difference which one I'm on, WinMX still reacts the same.

My thought is that it feels like it's hit overload.     But I haven't had this problem with v353 and those previous to that. Has anyone else had this problem?? And what can I do to fix it??

Any help is much appreciated!!   :D

WinMX Patch
« Reply #2 on: January 15, 2006, 11:45:14 pm »
I was using WinMX with the patch recently when it started acting strange. The easiest solution I thought would be to reistall WinMX. I reistalled WinMX & the patch & now I can't get connected. If I remember correctly, after I install WinMX I then install the patch which places the ws2_32.dll in my WinMX folder & that's supposed to enable WinMX to run correctly. Is that right? If not, what must I do to get WinMX running again? Please help!

The installer at www.wimxgroup.com installs winmx & the patch (ws2_32.dll if you use Windows 2000 or XP) both at once.  I'm not sure why this wouldn't connect suddenly, but it's worth checking if the XP firewall turned itself on (it sometimes does).

Has anything on your system changed? New software? Updates?

WinMX Patch
« Reply #4 on: January 16, 2006, 01:39:14 am »
I have already installeWinMX from www.wimxgroup.com which installed WinMX & the patch (ws2_32.dll). I have recently installed Ad-Aware SE Personal & WinFax PRO but I can't see how these would affect anything.

I put WinMxWorld.com_FC6C81561A2A into my filter but nothing happened since I cannot connect. My "Connection Status" is yellow. I don't have a firewall as far as I know. How can I check?

The very top of WinMX says, "WinMX v3.54 beta 4 <Connecting..>"
Below that it says, "Patch Operational" and directly to the right of that, "Currently blocking flooders to protect the network."

For connection type I have "make a secondary connection to the network" checked.  It won't let me check "make a primary connection to the network" because it says, "outgoing TCP connections use proxy server."
Any suggestions please?

If you're using windows XP I suggest you look here to see how to set your firewall https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

The only other possibility is that you're using windows 2000 (because the update bar message works), in which case any firewall will be a program you (or pc makers) added, you may find instructions there too..

Also if you use Norton AV 2005 or later it's worth looking here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/norton_2005.html

In any case the patch & winmx are both installed correctly from the description, it's now just a matter of getting ports unblocked or forwarded (configuration).

I hope this is some help.

WinMX not connecting
« Reply #7 on: January 21, 2006, 06:27:48 pm »
I downloaded WinMX from https://www.winmxgroup.com/ which includes the ws2_32.dll patch. All I get is a flashing yellow light. On top it says, "Patch Operational," and next to that it says, "Currently blocking flooders to protect the network." I have Windows XP Home and I do not have a firewall on this computer nor do I have the Service Pack for Windows XP. I do have AVG and Ad-Aware which I've always had in the past without a problem with WinMX. I had WinMX in the past but it wasn't working properly so I decided to reinstall it but now I can't connect. I did as someone suggested and went to https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp.html where I set my internal and external TCP ports to 6699 and my internal and external UDP ports to 6257. I noticed that I have a secondary connection and that I can't make a primary connection because it says, "Outgoing TCP connections use proxy server." Can someone help me please?

You probably set it up to use a proxy server then - most likely by accident.
This can easily be corrected though, just go to settings > internet connection > outgoin tcp connection  and set it to "don't use a proxy server (connect directly)".
That should fix it.
Good luck! :)

WinMX Connection

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm connected.!

Now, are there any settings that can be made better than the defaults to tweak WinMX's performance?. I have info I've downloaded thru WinMX that says to change the bandwidth throttle to 100000000 bytes per second, etc. Any suggestions?

You should have a look through our tutorials section, there are many useful guides there.
For a tutorial about bandwidth throttling go here:

First let me say Norton sux. The flashing you're reffering to I believe is where when MX opens it says "Please be Patient". It is caused when the index.dat file that MX makesin the Content.IE5 folder of your Temporery Internet Files get's deleted or cleared off during the time WinMX is in the middle of reconnecting  I belive. When it happens to me it's no big deal and doesn't seem to effect anything. Program seems to run as normal.
When you wake up each morning always try to remember tomorrow is never your option, it's God's. Love like you want to. Live like you aren't afraid. And ALWAYS try to remember that even if it seems personal it's never as important as something you may have forgotten to do today.
