« on: January 31, 2006, 04:50:29 pm »
Hi guys!

I have been using WinMX (3.31) for years, and sometimes after I confirmed to download a file, in the column of Bytes, there is an error message: "error: C:\WIndows\Desktop\my document  and setting..."

Could you tell me why this've happened?

Please help if you could!

Hi kwfine,
Welcome to the site...

Sounds like you have a file path that is too long, try reading this thread to help with that..

Let us know if this doesnt help.. there is one other method to doing this..

can it be a file that's attached with Virus?

As the file path I have set for downloaded files is "Desktop\kwfine_music".

your desktop is in your user directory, which can get long, so if the file has a long name added to a long path it can cause problems, delete the one you are trying to download and go back to the search results and select manually download, that will let you put a shorter filename

I don't mind doing another search for a file.
What I am concerned about is that, the file I've downloaded has attached virus.

There is no way to know from what you have posted if there is a virus,  Now the symptoms your describing are not anything to make us think this file is any more likely to have a virus then any other file on your system.  In other words this sounds like strickly an file name length issue only.

If your worried scan them with your onpc scanner, if you need a good free onpc scanner have a look at the links section where a few good ones are listed there.

I always scan my files before sharing them, so its good practice to do so, have never in all my years found a file from mx to contain a virus.
