A few WinMX-related questions
« on: March 01, 2006, 03:38:36 pm »
I am using WinMX 3.31 for 4 years.

Some files' names can't be displayed correctly, sometimes I could  only see the strange charcters instead, such as {}[]()^()%...
Is there any method to solve this issue?

Also, for the column of Status / Server, where users can see infos about the searched files;
can anyone tell me what are these meaning: "0+1 available users", and "100 of 100 available".

Finally, I was so confused by some of the files's bytes and time. For example, a file has got 4 miuntes long in time, but it is only 36 bytes. When I tried to play it, it just directed me to a website.
What's happened actually?

Please help if you could!

OK.. the files with those odd characters are Asian languages (such as Japanese) you could in theory install support to display them correctly, but unless you know, Japanese, Korean etc. you still wouldn't be able to read them...

The server stats you're referring to, give you the number of users with slots available so "3+2" would indicate 3 users with slots free & 2 you'd need to queue & wait with..  the "nnn of nnn available" shows how many free upload slots a given user has...

The size of a given music or video file has as much to do with the quality it's encoded at as it does with the time it runs, i have audio book files which run over half an hour that are smaller than some 3 minute music tracks, because speech doesn't require the quality music does..

A file as small as 36 bytes is likely to be a fake of some description, the whole purpose of which is to direct you to a website, very occasionally such a website MAY have audio or video streams... but it's not the way to bet, & they're more likely to have viruses or trojans...  or at the very least attempt to get you to part with money, for memberships etc.. an old marketing ploy used by many porn sites..
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

you might want to upgrade to 3.54 because it has a better library system.

I can't find the "update" in WinMX 3.31. Could you tell me the link to get the latest version of WinMX or WinMX 3.54

I go to the Archieve directory of this website and find Language support:
http://httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/WinMX%20Language%20Files/.
I see there are lots of text files, but I don't know what they are for and how to use them?

Those are to change most of your WinMX to certain languages.  For example if you where primarily german speaking you may want to install the German Language pack by:

Download the file you want to your PC somewhere.

Open WinMx and go to Settings > Appearence > then click on the right side at 'Load Language File From..'

Then browse to your new language file and select it.  Now restart WinMx.  You  can also go back to English from the same box in settings..'Reset Language To English'

Keep in mind this is not a good idea if your a english speaking/reading user and you are just trying to see the foreign language characters correctly, they may show up properly but if you cant read chinese they are not much use..
