UK Business Fat Cat calls for IP Ministry

The IP in question being " intellectual property " folks, something already enshrined in law.

Sir Digby, who has just returned from a visit to China, says the UK is treating the issues too casually. Its success in moving towards producing high value-added, branded products could be threatened by counterfeiting and copying in lower-cost countries.
Counterfeiting and abuse of IP are the greatest impediments to small businesses investing in innovation," he said. "We need to make it quicker to register IP and make it simpler."
Sir Digby said the UK Patent Office was well-regarded internationally, but copyright policy had been allowed to drift. "Creative industries generated more than 8 per cent of gross domestic product, and yet copyright is handled with little ministerial input as a subset of patent law, at arms length from the concerns of the copyright industries. This must change: the im-portance of copyright needs to be recognised and it must be given the prominence it deserves."

I see this is just another way of trying to blindside the public for the benefit of "copyright industries", yes folks its now an industry .
The rights given to the patent holder or designer ( or any of the other types of copyrightable material ) are exchanged normally for the publics right to the property after a fixed time, this is often not honoured in the modern climate of corporate greed as time after time the same vested interest ask for time extensions on what should be public property, this is just the start of another attempt to erode the publics rights in the UK , Intellectual property is already well protected against abuse and nothing new has haappened to change that except the greedy just get greedier and think of new methods to slip through rip offs and stealth taxes.
This fellow points to cheap foreign piracy as justification and yet the people to be hit by this suggested ministry would be UK citizens, is it just me who thinks this stinks ?

I disagree. The man has a point. There is piracy in China in a way much more than simple movies or songs

I read it in the paper some days ago, apparently, you can get anything there. There are motorbikes made by Indian Companies there, Moniters of sony, Computers, Anything I tell you. All these have authentic looking logos and papers. You must differenciate between a song and the thing that plays it.

I suggest you read a little more carefully  :)

Laws passed in the UK are only enforcable in the UK, anthing done here will have no effect on Chinese folks unless they move here.
