IE 7 Issue
« on: May 22, 2006, 03:22:12 am »
I updated to IE 7 and my WinMX quit working. It would come up, want to send error report to Microsoft and close. The "Patch Operational" message was missing. Removing IE 7 and reboot fixed it......FYI

Nothing new in that - only the patch for 3.53 works with IE7 so far.

If you have IE7 when installing the patch it will detect IE7 and only let you set up 3.53.
I'm sure KM is working hard on making the next patch version be compatible with IE7 for all versions of WinMX.

Let's just keep him supplied with lots of chocolate and vodka :D

I am having the same problem and love 3.54 ... I hope I can keep Internet Explorer 7 AND still use 3.54 and not have to go back to 3.53.

If I do not respond to the Microsoft ERROR and leave that dialogue box OPEN ... WinMX stays up and continues to work fine ... !!!!

Is there anyway I can tell Microsoft's ERROR reporting to *uck off !!!!!

Thanks

I hate to say it, but until KM releases an updated patch for XP, the only way I know to have both IE7 & 3.54 at once is using a hosts file to connect (e.g. pie patch) & Peer Guardian for fake blocking, there are issues however, PG updates every 2 days by default & daily if set to, this isn't often enough to accurately track the winmxworld blocklist, so it's only partially effective..

At present, best approach is 3.53 using the 9x patch.. I haven't spoken to KM about this, but from reading previous posts, I would expect an IE compatible patch around when IE7 ceases to be beta software, there's no guarantee that microsoft will retain the code that causes the issue in the public release, so writing a patch compatible with the beta might be wasted effort..

an IE7 compatible patch for 3.54 would need at the very least to be out before IE7 got shoved in to auto update... can you imagine the problems if all of the XP users with 3.54 suddenly got IE7 from an auto update? lol

don't worry, the issue is being looked at :-) (although i can't for the life of me see why anyone wants IE7 beta... but apparently some of them do want what is effectively a bad firefox clone)

Personally I haven't even looked at IE7, & probably won't till it appears on windows update, I have no doubt microsoft will consider getting it to be "critical", at which point like many others, I'll learn to live with whatever they've done to it lol (and the 27 security updates per week it will then need till it only resembles a security collander, rather than a torn wide mesh net...)
