Winmx is using too much memory
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:58:05 am »
I have been having this problem since last week. Winmx uses just too much memory and cpu.
In task manager, i never see it's memory usage go below 40,000kb. The virtual memory usage regularly stays above 60,000kb. That's without openmap. or being a primary. add another 20 mb if you are including that too. It really slows down the comp. I have only 256 mb ram and 933mh cpu. The computer regularly hangs up even if i minimise winmx. Max virtual memory is 512, with the general at 384mb.

I :

reinstalled winmx after completey deleting it, and all its rules and doing all the rules it again. Git primary and openmap with downloads and uploads. But still the same memory usage.

REFORMATTED THE HARDISK. Still the same problem. I checked for viruses and spyware with norton 2006 and spyware doctor 3.8. No threats whatsoever.

PLEASE HELP.

are you running as primary? because then it does use a lot of resources (both CPU and RAM), as secondary it uses less (although does still use a lot of RAM considering...)

But i just noticed this, that when you close winmx(So that it runs only in tray) the memory usage in seconadry is much less, about 10-11mb. Still that is the second highest memory hogging program in the taskmanager.

Could any of you tell me the memory usage in your computers please?

Cheers

28,400K & about 30%cpu running primary, setting search thread duty cycle to 40% helps, sometimes i also set main thread priority to below normal, winmx seems to cope & other things respond better, tho mostly i leave the main thread priority at normal, which is the recommended setting.. i have twice the physical ram you do, & a HUGE pagefile, but a slower (800 MHz) cpu, system rarely hangs, though it does respond very slowly if i have other cpu intensive things running, & value of SPM drops to point that i suspect not running primary at such times would probably be better, only i can't be assed changing when such things run, as it involves putting myself back in chatrooms
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.
