Hi Exroyal, Can you check the location manually, this is the default for XP

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

The file is called "hosts" and should be able to be opened in notepad.

Some porgrams"lock" this file so you may find by right clicking on it that its "read only! and you may need to temporarily change that until your install has completed.

Here the download link again

Let us know how you get on ok   :)

Is there any chance you could drop by the winmxworld help chatroom? There's a few things it's possible to check, under certain conditions for instance MSN's auto repair has been known to damage the registry key which windows uses to determine where the hosts file is.. something along those lines may have happened, particularly if you see a file called HOSTS.msn in the same folder.

To get to the chatroom enter this in the space next to the filter button on the chat screen
WinMxWorld.com Help_E3D7EFD50D3D
Then hit the Join button

I could post things to look at here, but as you say you're unsure of yourself you may feel more comfy with someone "looking over your shoulder" as it were.

Generally the proceedure is as simple as getting WinMX 3.54b4 + Patch

Making sure WinMX is closed & running it..

However there are occasionally glitches, could you please describe the issue you are having in detail?

*edit direct link to file revised to winmxgroup downloads page per request by KM... BB
