Upper Ascii in file lists

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere - if so, please point me to location...

In many user's lists I see filenames that are not readable -- rather than standard alpha characters, they seem to be named with random upper ascii characters that to me make no sense whatsoever.  When searching for alternates, these will pop up and match what I am looking for, and they will be added to the queue.  They are files, and have aided in completing my downloads. 

My question is, why do people give the files these weird names, and is there any way to decipher them?

the top ones appear to be a browse message (many people have messages at the top of their file list for users browsing them for some reason) and the rest are just files

the reason you can't read them? because a large portion of winmx users are Japanese... guessing you can read Japanese (plus your language settings aren't set up for displaying Japanese correctly, which is why you didn't see it as Japanese)

Ah, I see...  Nope, cannot read Japanese, so correcting the language display wouldn't help me   I had thought people were trying to hide what they were offering...  I appreciate the fast reply!

But all the same, it does make the file name lengths shorter... so you might want to try it out.... your choice though
