Connection issue after new patch downloaded

When I downloaded and tried to install the new match I received the following error message: Unicode Wrapper not found: unicows.dll

I then went and downloaded the latest unicows.dll and installed that into the windows/system directory.

I still can not get the new patch to install. Any help or suggestions. I am running Win98SE

I havent heard of this one before, did you try a sytem reboot and then run the installer before starting winmx ?

Also try this smaller patch, it does not contain winmx itself, but it sounds like you have it already.

It has been tested on Win98 so it is more than likely a local issue related to your machine, hopefully its nothing major, keep us up to date with your progress  jjnovice

GhostShip, thanks for the ideas...that is the download that I installed for the unicows.dll from Microsoft. I also tried the other patch you suggested as well. If it is a machine issue, where would you point me to find the root cause...would I start in the Registry or some place else?

that download should have given you a file called unicows.dll, put that in the winmx directory (or you can get just the dll from https://www.winmxworld.com/files/unicows.dll)

you're actually the second person to mention it, the odd thing is my windows 98 test system doesn't have that file and doesn't need it :-S

I'm have the same problem with win98se as you.  Unicows.dll from microsoft didn't work.
I've tried all the patches.  Still working on it.
