There are no Linux clients for sharing files on WinMx that I'm aware of.
If you just want to chat try the gaim plugin made by ranma (it's in the archive) or the new chat client string is developing atm.
As for running it with wine I can't say it's giving me problems at all.
It installs and runs more or less out of the box, and has been doing so for ages.
What's your problem with wine, maybe someone can help you with it?
