Many peoples are dropping from rooms

It's was 3 times now I see a same problem with these 3 users.

Users in my room are using the dll to be connected on the winmx but sometimes, users losing connections and left the room, enter, left the room again etc...

It's the same thing with the downloads.

I don't know if anyone else have the same problem...

I have seen a few folks with this issue and not really just dll users.. but lately maybe some updates or something has caused it to be worse..

This thread brings up an interesting and apparently widespread problem. We also have problems with roomies dropping out - usually the same 2 or 3 roomies every time. It happens with either FXServer or Ouka, also, and more of a problem lately is redirecting the room is losing a lot of roomies - and again it's the same 2, 3 or 4 roomies that get lost in the redirect. They arrive safely (mostly) into a wcs based room but a redirect back to FXServer or Ouka results in either a failed redirect (halfway through after a handful make it safely) or a total rejection of entry into the room. We have tried to slow the redirect down and use sigular roomie exile to reduce the loss but more often than not the same roomies are not making it.

Some details.... wcs 1.7.4 - support host uses on win98se.. FXServer 1.3.9 results in -999 failed entry code to same users
Ouka 5.40a or FXServer 1.3.7 8 or 9 also hosted on 98se same results.

Both hosts are considering and will probably upgrade to XP within the new couple of months. If sp2 with XP is likely to create some problems we'd like to have some handy tips regarding hosting in advance to save us losing roomies in a room change. Your thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

I see this often too with Ouka rooms hosted under win 2k pro & win 2k server (both service pack 4),  I've noticed it tends to be dialup or dsl users on asking about their connection.. the dialup users may be a spurious result though, as their connection sucks generally  (way out in the boonies on poorish lines or they'd have dsl).

It may not be a real factor, but ASCII characters (pretty shit) and/or colour codes in names also seem to exacerbate the condition.

One roomy has particularly mentioned that his primaries hit 0 at the same time he drops from the room - we suspect he may be a 'hostage' (not that i would mention ShawCable in Canada as a culprit  ...).. and we've observed 'surges' in his bandwidth when he downloads. I'm thinking of suggesting he set a b/w limit for both up and down to see if the surges are controlled, and hopefully save his primaries from crashing.. would this werk for him ?? Other than that he's checked router settings through portforward.com and at this point i don't think he can change ISP's.

Anyone loosing primaries needs to consider a few things..
1. What patch are they using.. if its the 3.0 good.. if its a hosts file or older dll.. have them upgrade..
=== Its hard for some folks to run a hosts file, and pg2 and a primary connection esp with a ISP problem anyway.. Make sure we lessen the burden by being on a patch that doesn't require pg2, and if they were on a hosts file without pg2 that would be the answer for the problem.

2. Does this person HAVE to use primary...
===Its often less b/w intensive to use a secondary connection and speeds can actually improve esp with again.. the ISP problems.  Have them give this a try for a bit..

You might also want to quiz that roomie about their patch & blocking combination, losing all primaries & surges in bandwith is typically symptomatic of an unprotected or poorly protected hosts file primary, shaw suck for file transfers (from what I've observed) but chat seems to work well enough (at least for an ex admin of mine).

Zenar did you have them try that patch for TCP Limits on XP ?

XP limits you to 10, and if your running primary by chance on top of that.. well you can see this could be a problem for them.. make sure they install that patch and set the limit to something like 100

XP is the only operating system to ever set these limits btw.. and they are stupid and useless
