Help Please - Auto Enter Queue Too High
« on: July 16, 2006, 09:02:11 am »
Hi.  I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone can tell me why my Auto Enter Queue always selects 100 as the default number every time WinMX looks for sources to D/L from?  I am using V3.54 beta 4 with XP.  Does anybody know if I can do something to alter this to a lower number?  Regards, MA.  :?

Hi Male_admiration,

Welcome to the site..

Yes you can adjust that setting in WinMx Settings > Search > then look on the right side for Auto Enter Que - 100  click on this and change it to the number you would like to use..

You can reduce the number, but reducing it to very less numbers can restrict the number of sources that you get. This can be a problem if your file is already red, and that everytime you click find sources, you never seem to get any.
Setting it to hundred will mean that you will enter any queue.
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

3.53 & earlier still won't auto enter queues longer than 100 (3.54 i haven't checked) but there's certainly nothing wrong with setting lower numbers, particularly if you have to go offline regularly, all you do in that situation is waste slots in everyone's queues, until you have to leave them, blocking a slot those who stay on 24/7 actually could wait through, if everyone were to set AEQ at say 20, queues would be shorter when you DID find sources, so it's not ALL gain recommending high numbers.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

the reason winmx default to 10 is to keep queues short, and the limit of 100 is also to keep them short (although 100 isn't exactly short)... with most people using AEQ of 100 queues are typically that length, longer queues doesn't help any extra users get files (they still upload the same amount) it just makes delays longer

I set AEQ to default 30 here and just increase it if there are not that many sources arriving for the file.

If you set AEQ at 100 and reach 15 queued sources for a particular file then the client stops searching the network (AFS) for additional users (15 is a built-in client limit).  If the file is this popular then it might be worth your while lowering the AEQ and ditching the highest queued users from the queue so the client starts searching the network again, but this time for users with a lower queue.

I think too many people say to 'set it at 100 and forget it'.  Sure, 100 has the highest chance of sourcing users to queue into, but it's not necessarily the optimum value for downloading files in the shortest time.
