People,

educate me. I must be doing something wrong. I used pie till a couple of weeks ago. Got the message in a search when the nw was down, so I switch to the dll. Up again. Cool. Thanks for the heads up. The way you did it made me _extremely_ suspicious but your forum swung it compared to vladd44 ;-)

I use 3.53, as I have used from when the network was with frontcode. I went to my hosts and checked there was just the MS stuff there. I still use PG, 'cos it's still there from the old days, in standard config plus the winmxworld blocklist. And I use MxM 1.28, to boot leeches that share <30 or UL0

I'm a TV music performances capper, so I like to see the UL slots used, though not by leeches :) So what I want to know is where is everybody - compared to the pie network when it was working, I usually got all three UL slots going and a small queue. On KMnet I'm mostly onesy twosy on UL, and there's a noticeable drop at weekends which is contrary to pie. The pie ULders weren't macrovision flooders as I'd often browse them and DL stuff from guys into similar stuff - that's what filesharing is all about, and I got some pukka stuff.

On the plus side, I'm DL some US TV series for my gf  - started that on pie, got lots. On KMnet I get some blistering DL speeds on that. No complaints there.

So, I want to know what's up. I feel the network is relatively empty of people wanting to DL, activity drops at weekends, I get fewer results in searches. Is KMnet separate from pienet? WinMX clearly still works on both UL and DL, I just feel the WinMX universe has gotten a darn sight smaller since pie went down on me a few weeks ago. Am I making my winmx universe smaller by sticking with 3.53 and using the dll, or did everybody get pissed off and go elsewhere, like YouTube, revolting low quality crap that it is?

I hate to spoil the illusion but the patchs just connect folks to the WPN network, the same old single network we always had, nothing more or less  :)

I suspect after 4 pie patch changes in a week many folks did leave the network but according to the figures we have for users the size is sort of slowly clinmbing each month, the main brake to the further rapid expansion of the network is the lack of publicity, we all need to do our bit in making sure it gets a mention as many times and in as many places as we can.

I hope you continue to enjoy the network that has been kicking the media Mafias A** for a while now and I,m sure you,ll notice the ups and downs are the same as last year if you take a look at some of the postings, its always a time of uncertainty when a new program or system is tried so I understand the concern.

I'm glad you like the forum :)
It's the same network, they aren't separate, in fact they can't BE separated, if there was a way to separate into Pie net & KM net many (or at least some) would be calling for just that to happen, as "KMnet" would be clean & totally flooded fake free.

I don't know for certain, but there may actually be a sort of "regionalising" happening between the two solutions, each hands your connection a primary or primaries it knows about, & searches only travel a certain "distance" out through a given number of primaries, I suppose there *may* be an effect of reaching "mostly pie" or "mostly.dll" results, but once online primaries find other primaries & the "two networks" stay somewhat mixed & connected because of it.

I'm sure also that many got fed up & left as a result of connection behaviour after old versions of Pie failed to connect anymore, something that effort to avoid happening was conspicuously absent about over at the Pie camp.  I personally made about as much noise trying to avert that situation as I dared over there, until dealing with the HUGE flood of users they'd abandoned through neglect caused me to speak the plain truth in plain language & get myself banned as a result.

The sheer volume of updates to Pie once it DID fail will have annoyed many more into leaving, they HAD the chance to do a simple edit>replace job & ignored it, then released several what can only be called botches, before they had a file that even worked reasonably.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

Thanks, glad to hear that the network isn't split. There's not enough of us as it is.

There's still a place for the likes of WinMX for stuff that's more than a couple of months old. BT rocks for recent stuff, but seeders fade fast. And there's no point capping for YouTube, with their revolting recoded quality and can't download "all your vidcaps belong to us" mentality.
