Cannot share
« on: July 31, 2006, 12:27:14 am »
Hi guys, I recently reinstalled the new version of WinMX  and I noticed that the very few times that someone tryied to download from me has been timed out (even if I set it uo to 300 secs). Could it be a problem with the firewall, I mean, coud it be that it lives me download but stops the uploads?
thanks and bye

Did you put winmx in the allowed list in your firewall?
If you did then it may be a problem with ports.
Try out the new beta patch that may sovle your problem.
If it does not then please go to www.portforward.com to see your router. A tutorial on how to forward winmx in that is given.
But please try out the patch first before going to the site the link is :

What if my router is not on portforward.com?  If the router is that box thinging on top of my computer, it is Alvarion Breezeaccess.  I have spent hours reading through these posts, trying to find a way to let me upload so I can share, but I'm about at my wit's end.  I have two firewalls, Microsoft and Norton, but I think I have those configured correctly.  So it must be my router, but  I can never find mine listed.  I really need help.  Especially now that I'm saying things like box thinging. :o

Weel guys, the firewall(s) I had already configured. I did install the patch, no  results, then I forwarded the ports on the router, still nothing, people trying to download and irrimediably falling down after 300 seconds :-). I even chabged the number of the ports in ALL the configurations (Router, firewalls spywere, I am a little bit of paranoic so I have running on my pc  Spy Swepeer, spy doctor, A2square, pccillin 2002, Avast and peerguardian simultanously and you will not believe, all is fine and good. Obviousliy I tried to desabilitate them alternatively and at the end get rid of all of them and risked a "naked" walk in the winmx network but STILL NOTHING)
any other suggestion?

Sometimes a simple answer is to switch from Primary to secondary connection (on your networks page of winmx)

I'm not tech-minded enough to know why but when our chat members have timing out problems this sometimes helps. If you get connections happening, try going again to Primary. If they fail again on Primary then a secondary connection is for you.

Of course if neither of these work then........ er... I dunno. LOL

* fingers crossed

Shut down your windows firewall and keep only the norton one. Windows and Norton can cause some unexpected problems. So better to have Norton ( As it is the better one)

Mostly, your router will be there. If not, then see a similar model. Port forwarding is not much different in similar routers.

If you still have problems then visit the winmxworld chatroom

You may also try out the new beta patch that can automaticially forwards ports.
