WinMX Crashes
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:03:44 pm »

Hi,

I am a blind user am am using version 3.31. Even with the new Pie patch Winmx is still crashing now and again and when it does it cause my PC to crash.

Is version 3.54 more stable and if so where can I downlaod it from?

Cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,

Welcome to the site..

Yes 3.54 is considered the most stable of all the WinMX Versions.  The crashing you are having however is more then likely due to fake files and yes these can cause your entire pc to crash or lag.

The best thing to do is this

Go to this link:
https://www.winmxgroup.com/downloads.html

Look for the download that is called Various WinMX Versions + Patch

Download this file and choose 'Save' to your PC some place you can find it.

When its finished double click and install, you will see a screen asking you which version of WinMX you would like to use, choose your 3.31 if you like for now. (3.54 can always be installed later from this same file)

Allow WinMX to start and run, remove your incomplete files for the time being from the transfers screen (often fake files that are incomplete are the cause of the crashes if your using a PIE patch.)

See how this does for you, if you dont have any problems then you can slowly add the incompletes back to see which one may have been causing this, when your there to watch them.

The general rule is if you have a movie file that is not getting any sources, never ques up, and finds many many sources that time out, this is likely your problem file.

The above instructions will give you a patch from WinMX Group, It has the ability to filter the fakes from your searches so that you wont have this issue again, It also blocks the file flooders from connecting to you as a secondary (if you run primary), and wont need updated for new peer caches or changes.

Hi,

I don't have too many movie files now because of my eyes it is hard to se them but I have cleared out all that was left that hasn't moved for some time. lso some old MP3 files that haven't moved for a while.

I have installed 3.31 and it seems ok at the moment.

Thanks,

Robin
