My Computer Keeps Freezing Up
« on: August 08, 2006, 08:15:45 pm »
Well, ever since i moved one of my computers into my bedroom, It has been freezing itself up.  I formatted at least 3 times on one hard drive. And I even switched to another hard drive and installed a newer OS (2003).

Since i installed 2003, it has been up 13 days, but then it froze itself again.

When it freezes itself its like you can still hear everything running put if you try to turn on the monitor the light just stays orange and never shows a picture.

When it was on for 13 days, the case was shut but then it just froze up for no reason at all.  All the power save options are set correctly so it doesn't shut anything off either.

This last time, I had the case open for 3 days but then it was too noisy so i closed it and had the intake by the AC. Which was on.  Then around the time i woke up (6:30AM) to get 2 more blankets because I was freezing cold because the AC was on. The computer was reported to have froze at 06:39:33 You left the channel.

I just dont know lol  I have tried almost everything

Does the freezing continue indefinitely once it starts or does it stop after some time? Does it happen periodically or randomly?

Someone else had the same problem. The problem was that winmx scans all your files periodicially and his computer used to freeze up with 100% usage of CPU whenever winmx used to do that.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

I dont think its winmx, because you cant even look at task manager,  its like a blue screen, everything stops, just without the blue lol

Could be any number of things, but personally i prefer to at least do some simple things first, have you checked the Error log (control panel > admin tools > event viewer) see if anything obvious appears? Also i always run an error scan and repair on the hard drive, just on the off chance.

Did you use the system restore and take it back to a time all was well?

Does the trouble occur when running windows in safe mode?

Does the problem only occur when your running Winmx?

It could be a hardware fault/conflict, i would start by removing non essestial items, printers, scanner, ex hd's etc first then see if the problem is fixed, then add back 1 at a time. You could aslo make sure latest drivers are installed.

Could also be a problem with your ram and any number of other things.

Lots of things it could be, process of elimination really, and hope you come accross it.
