Something Major wrong in Beta Software
« on: August 22, 2006, 05:18:29 am »
I have been running MX for many years, up until MX Beta 4 I have had very little problems with it.

Now since I have installed Beta 4 a few weeks ago, I get very few downloads finished 90% reduction or searches 75% reduction, switching to Windows Task Manager I see that MX now is using 95% to 97% CPU utilization with NO Uploads or Downloads and NO bandwidth being used 20-80 bps, the MX Beta 4 program is doing something and is hogging the whole CPU, then as soon as I shutdown MX the CPU utilization goes back to 15-17%, Is there anyway I can go back to the previous version without constantly being told to install a program that crashes, hogs CPU time, will not let me listen to music, and makes me use another computer to watch my DVD movies, I really do not like Beta 4, also being it uses so much CPU time, it WILL cause the system to crash, since installing Beta I have had about 20 crashes, I have been building home computers since 1978 so I can easily turn off the computer and go read a digital book.... also DO NOT INTERUPT MY SEARCHES WITH "PLEASE DOWNLOAD NEW BETA 4 SOFTWARE AT WINMXGROUP.COM", I will not use the language that my very young peers use, but please remove Beta 4 until it works correctly and let me use the older program, one day our software group installed a Beta on 600 computer, that day I had to deal with resetting 600 computer that would crash every 10-12 minutes, 600x(8 hours x (60/10)= around 25,000 resets that 1 day, I was not happy, they rolled back the software that night

Which Patch do you use?
Mx pie or winmx group?
Please download the winmxgroup patch from:
https://www.winmxgroup.com/downloads.html
Please select the 3.54beta 4 for 3.54beta4
and multi version for all other version

Do tell what happened
Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

I use to have that exact same problem.. my cpu usuage was at 86%  always with 3.4.. but the problem was winmx.. it was the patch i used.. i use to use pie patch taht sucked my cpu usage dry.  then i used the winmxworld or winmxgroup patch and my cpu usage went down to  7 - 12 % back where it should be  by switch from that pie crap to dll

mind you pie  was good when it first came out as it was a quick fix to a major problem  but times have changed and  there is no need to suck dry your cpu with pie patch anymore

You might also find connecting secondary dramatically reduces CPU usage, if you use primary ensure search thread duty cycle in settings > WinMX Peer Network is set at the default (idle) setting, please connect secondary rather than reduce the search thread duty cycle here. Also check that the main thread priority settings > Miscellaneous is set no higher than the default (normal).

Various WinMX Versions + Patch will allow you to change versions whenever you run it, simply by checking the desired version box when it asks you to select version.

high CPU usage like that is typically caused by not blocking the flooders properly on primary as you typically get 12 of them, each with 3000 files shared, it takes a lot of CPU to go through every single one for every search it processes on the network... although of course i am assuming it's not just a low spec PC that can't handle primary

3.54 was still technically labeled a beta when frontcode vanished, however it might as well have had the beta label removed - it was likely the final beta as there were no bugs reported with it so it was probably a case of "I'll remove beta from the name and re-release it tomorrow", however it does also have quite a few bug fixes which is why it's the recommended version - although the biggest bug the winmxgroup patch will fix anyway in other versions

apart from the bug fixes the only other difference anyone would notice is the change of library, the one in 3.54 is much easier to manage shared files with (although a very small number of people disagree), if you don't really mind that then you can use the multiple winmx versions installer and install 3.53 and shouldn't notice any of its bugs (as i say the major one in 3.31/3.53 is fixed by the patch, the others most people simply don't notice)

* Bearded Blunder avoids the over complex library in 3.54 by using 3.53 & the over complex chat admin by hosting with a third party chatserver
* Bearded Blunder likes simplicity
count me as one of that "small number"
