Microsoft Fix Patch Update Blunder

It seems that having auto update on turns your machine into a pile of useless junk.

Microsoft has re-issued a security update after it was discovered that the patch introduced a bug of its own
The problems revolve around the MS06-042 security patch for Internet Explorer that Microsoft originally released on 8 August.
This update had Microsoft's highest "critical" rating and fixed eight vulnerabilities in the popular browser.
Soon after releasing the update Microsoft received reports that, in some circumstances, it was causing Internet Explorer to crash.

Microsoft said the security problem introduced by its update would affect the relatively small number of users running Windows 2000.
It said that group of people were most likely to be using the crash-prone version of Internet Explorer as that was the most recent version of the browser for that operating system. The crashes were seen on machine using Internet Explorer 6 with the Service Pack 1 update installed.

I dont think software will ever be 100% safe and the continual inducing of panic for what are in fact highly unlikely and often only paper attacks on the OS are not worth all the time spent on shouting from the hilltops each update as to how this or that one is "critical" or otherwise flagged to gain undue attention for rare events that are unlikely to affect 99% of real world users.

Thank you for the helpful information Ghost however i knew something like this would happen and the reason i knew it would happen is because Microsoft are involved. If i could give any advice out it would be to buy a new Hard Drive fit it in your pc and install Linux and use both Windows and Linux, i do this and the only thing i use Windows for is Deejaying and the Famous WinMX, i use Linux for everything else.

well... i guess this explains why internet explorer wont load anything anymore... (like the 'patch operational' window atop winmx or any of the images that i use it to view) ... at least firefox still works ;)
