New Router
« on: September 09, 2006, 07:57:58 am »
I have just bought a Netgear FA311 Router which works well but I don't know how to configure WinMX to let me connect to the network. Can anyone help?

I don't see that particular one listed at www.portforward.com which leaves 3 options:

1) look at a similar model there, the netgear web configuration pages don't vary that much, one of them will almost certainly be similar enough to get you through the process

2) read the documentation that came with the router (usually a .pdf file on the accompanying cd) to see how to forward a tcp and udp port to your computer.

3) try the beta 3.1 patch, which may do it automatically, & if not you've only lost a couple of minutes installing it, there is an annoying small bug if you use open nap networks with the beta, in which case, look at the first two options, if not it's well worth a shot, the beta can be downloaded here

Isn't the Netgear FA311 just a network interface card?  If that's the case, aeschylus, then you shouldn't need to configure it in any way (it's not a router).

Dear All

Please forgive a Scottish eedjit (idiot) - I have been looking at the wrong number on my router. Thanks for your help anyway - I wouldn't have checked it otherwise - my router is listed on the Port Forwarding website - thanks again.
