RIAA Beg For Help from US Colleges

Another crazy scheme to keep there initials (RIAA) in the news folks while abusing the rights of US youth.

In its latest strategy for dealing with illegal file sharing on college campuses, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is asking for help from college administrators to deal with the growing trend of students sharing copyrighted files on local area networks (LANs).
LAN file sharing allows students to download large amounts of copyrighted music and movies at high speeds directly from other students at their college or university onto their computers, using programs like Direct Connect, myTunes and ourTunes.
In April the RIAA sent a letter to 40 universities, but not to Ithaca College, identifying LAN piracy as an “increasing” problem and asking administrators for help in stopping students from downloading copyrighted files over college networks.
The letter advised colleges and universities to conduct investigations of their networks and shut down any illegal file sharing they found.

While being not so suprised at the claim of "a growing trend" ( conflicting as it does with their own previous propaganda claiming that file sharing was on the demise ), I feel its only right to point out that once again they are looking to attack a "weak " section of society, namely young adults/older children who may not be in a position to defend themselves against illegal interception of their web traffic, and I am amazed the RIAA feels its ok to search through every students network activity just on the off chance someone was perhaps sharing an mp3 copy of a copyrighted song, talk about pathetic and over the top.

I also feel sure that should the internal revenue service take the same style of action against the "non-profit" RIAA, we would hopefully see some real criminals sent to prison.

Lol
And to think, if they shut them down, then, what are flash drives for? Cd-Rw's... DVD's/.... list is a long one.
It's after all a campus where the students are going to meet anyway.....
Also, why are the universities going to be nothered with it? The RIAA can't do anything to them......

Cheers :P
