« on: September 26, 2006, 02:54:08 am »
I wish someone can help me, I just got a cable modem and my 3.34 beta was working fine and now it doesn't work, now I switched to 3.31 and now it comes on but now it doesn't download from anyone. And it takes its time to connect. I have Windows XP so if someone can help me it would help a lot

if you have peergardian running, you can close that and delete it, as the dll patch in all versions of winmx now do that same job only better, peer gardian tends to block the ip's that winmx actually uses, so it could be stopping you if you have that installed.

At the top it says Patch Operational-Peer Guardians Click Hear, Does that mean Peer Guardian is on?

Hi Jesse,

Peer Guardian is a seperate program and if you have it installed it will be listed in your program files from the Start Menu.. or you will see a small blue/or red round Icon near the clock that has a White PG on it.. if you have this right click the icon and choose disable... If thats whats causing your connection problems then it should fix it immediately.

If this is there, and works.. please uninstall PeerGuardian from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and restart WinMX.

Patch Operational indicates your using the WinMX Group Patch that has blocking for WinMX built in.

Let us know

Sure Jesse,

First could you clarify for me a few things..

You downloaded the latest patch from WinMX Group.com ?
What version of WinMX are you trying to run now?
Do you get a Green light on the Networks page or does that stay Yellow?
Do you have a router/dsl modem that may be NAT (like a router) capable?
What other security or firewalls do you run?
What Operating System do you use?  XP, 2000, 98..etc..

thank hun.. let us know and well get you working

It's also worth noting that some parts of norton remain active when others are disabled.. you're usually better off confirming that the config is correct with it enabled than going for disable options

Jesse for now since you're having these problems I would like you to check a few things..

1.  What does your WinMX say up top (under the WinMX Version, in the bar)?  Is this blank or does it say Please be Patient?
If it does NOT say Patch Operational I want you to visit this page:
https://www.winmxgroup.com/downloads.html  - On this page please download the Various WinMX Versions + Patch (do it again if you have done it before please).  Once downloaded please install this file, choose your current WinMX Version (3.31).

2. If the problem continues please check your Norton Security.  Please follow the pages here to set it up and allow it to be enabled.
http://firewalling.com/personalfirewalls/nortoninternetsecurity2005.htm - If you can not find the firewall in this program don't panic, this may mean you don't have the firewall installed at all.  Although we do recommend you run some sort of software firewall, even XP firewall is better then none.  Also Jesse if your Norton's has got WinMX listed in the Permitted programs already.. please remove it and start WinMX up, allowing Norton to ask you again fresh if you would like to allow this.
Once you're finished with the above please visit this link and follow these instructions if you have Norton 2005+
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/norton_2005.html

3.  Please note the above mentioned XP has a built in firewall, IF your Norton's has a firewall we recommend you make sure your XP firewall is off.  If you do NOT have a Norton firewall running please follow the following link to set up your XP and use it as your firewall
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp-sp2.html

Give these a try and let us know how you do..

OK Jesse this is looking like an odd install of WinMX and Patch.. so here is the plan

I want you to do a search on your Computer for WinMX.exe files.. then i want you to post back the locations of all you find.  Hopefully there is more then one and this is the problem.

I also want you to find your shortcut you use for WinMX to run it and right click it.. choose properties.. tell me the exact Target: Location path here please.

As an alternate, deleting all winmx folders & all references to winmx from your firewall, then installing fresh, & re creating your firewall rules should fix it.. i would also suggest picking version 3.53 or 3.54beta4 if you use this approach, as then you can paste the help chatroom name into filter & come talk to someone, even before winmx connects (very useful if it doesn't..)
 the current roomname is

do you see a splash screen as winmx first starts?
if not there is a problem with the patch installation
if you do see the splash screen, then it sounds like a firewall block, it's important with many firewalls that if you change winmx version you actually remove & re-create the exceptions for winmx, as otherwise they will block the program completely.

I don't know how a splash screen looks, so if you can describe it, it will help a little
