Cannot download from Peer Network
« on: September 28, 2006, 10:43:39 am »
Hello. I am now using WinMX v 3.53 with patch in Win XP SP2. I can connect to the peer network and
search files, but when I download a file, WinMX usually just queues (but sometimes the source has
no running downloads) and after queuing, it do not start downloading and later timed out. Sometimes
it will report "File/User not available". I can hardly download a file successfully. However, everything
seems to be fine on OpenNap Networks. Can anyone help me?

the best solution there is to select files that are avaliable with no queues - if you are after large files it can be hard to find any sources avaliable, but for smaller files there is normally a source or two that will start straight away - they should be at the top of the results by default

if you want to go in to the winmxworld chat room then someone there if someone is around you can test your winmx to make sure it is working and there isn't anything deliberately causing problems (like ISP blocking)

I choose those with at least one upload slot available (those in green) , it just
queues (and usually in around 15th of the queue).
From both the search results or the whois window, the user has upload quota left.

It would seem odd that any user you select showing available would then have a queue (with the exception of a small bug where it occasionally shows with slots but has a queue, but that is normally japanese users and normally they have a queue several thousand long)

however from where you went in to the room earlier, I have to agree with sam that your poor download performance could well be due to just sharing thousands of images, especially if you are trying to download films/music/etc, as many people will either check and see the images and block the upload, or will have programs set to automatically block you based on all of your upload slots being free (or a combination of both)

i think unsharing the images and sharing other files would certainly help
