Upload Speed Slow
« on: September 30, 2006, 07:02:56 am »
Hi,

I have a problem with winmx recently, my upload speed seems very slow to other winmx user, last time i used to have 40kBs upload speed but recently i can only get 1-2 upload speed with other winmx user (either T1 or T3 line user), i have tried re-install winmx with latest patch but same problem again, can anyone teach me what to do.

I am very sad that no body seems want to trade with me because of this problem. :( :(  :(

Hi Bearlovbearlov

What changes besides the new install and patch have you made, anything around the time of this problems starting?
Have you checked to make sure your firewalls are allowing MX and where applicable using the port numbers?

Often we find that when this sort of thing happens its either a ISP or equipment problem (usually the ISP is throttling) Make sure there is not a certain time this happens worse.. for example do you ever have normal speeds ?
When its the WinMX settings normally its going to either be No uploads or Yes uploads.. no in between like just slow speeds..

Something else if your on Primary be sure to try secondary and see if this helps or visa versa.. try primary if your able.. some folks report better speeds on one or the other.

Hi all

I have the same problem, it started a few days ago.  Users can normally download from me at quite high speeds and as of a few days ago, they'll only get 1-2k and then down to 0.00 and die off.  I haven't got Outgoing Bandwidth selected (ie. unlimited), my router, firewalls are still the same, I double checked them.    I've tried rebooting , reinstalling WinMX, playing with various settings in WinMX, stopped MxMon, checked my local hosts file to ensure it doesn't have anything in it besides loopback, rebooted the router, also tried changing 6699 & 6257 ports to others (making appropriate changes in router/firewall as well) but still the same thing  :?

I can't seem to find whats causing it.

I've also tried stopping WinMX and MxMon and monitored my outgoing network packets and nothing was happening (just in case there was another process uploading elsewhere and using up the bw).

I can download fine in all cases, its just the uploading to others that are slow - so they manage to connect (thus no port issues) but then the speeds are slow and eventually slows down to nothing and then disconnects  :(

Any ideas ???

Hi aqtpie,

I just checked the ISP you are posting from, if its your home one I am a bit surprised. .but this sounds alot like throttling... Cox and Cablevision, and another i cant place the name of did this to their customers for a while too.. the throttles where only on uploads.

That said from what you have posted above its my first thought that your on a throttling ISP,  you can only really test this one way.. that is by getting a phone modem installed (usually very cheap if you dont have one already) and sign up for Juno's free 10 hours a month.. if your uploads work fine and seem up to full speeds and dont die off then you know its your ISP you have now.
http://account.juno.com/s/landing?action=viewProduct&productId=free&group=free

Are there any certain times this seems worse then others.. most DSL companies i have heard of throttling (not many of them) do it as restrictions during peak hours.

Other then that I dont know what else to tell you to try.. sounds like you have pretty much covered what i would suggest.. only other thing i just thought of is to make sure you try secondary instead of primary.

Its been pretty mch consant - not just peak hours :(  and I am on a Secondary connection.

I am tearing my hair out - not sure if my ISP is imposing this limitation - they certainly did not notify their users of this change !

I've been OK for more than a year now with the same ISP.

Well we hear that a lot.. I was fine and one day I wasnt.. basically when the throttles where started.. I cant say 100% its your ISP unless you try the little test.. its the only way to know for sure since this one your on is not one I am familiar with or have seen any other users with problems..

Unfortunately its the general rule that if your uploads are working but you cant get any speeds that its the ISP, and at this stage I dont know what else to try except the Juno dial up test..  :(

Hi Me Here,

I dont think that is ISP problem because I can have high download/upload speed with other programs such as ftp..... or download software from the website.
I even tested my line speed with some website & the line speed seems ok.

I just have very slow speed (nearly o kB/s) with winmx  :(

Even I have formatted my pc same problem stil exist... :(

The thing is ISP's specificially target programs like winmx. They will block things like winmx form downloading or uploading. Try changing your port numbers and see if that helps...Downloads from sites is not affected. Traffic of P2P is.
Pop into the winmxworld chatroom and somebody will be able to test you out.

they certainly did not notify their users of this change !
They never will tell you about. As you might disconnet from them and move to a new one.... blah blah. A loss for them. So they will never ever tell.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

I noticed in another thread you said you were on a satellite connection, satellite & wireless providers target p2p traffic even worse than cable ones, i strongly suspect ISP interference.

someone was telling me he has a restriction on peek time d/l 6am-11pm and he is with BT and is showing a T1
with the little dsl modem u get i didnt think it would be a T1, also he tried to d/l 1 program off me that was a zipped file and his speed was fluctuating between equal to and below that normally of a 56K dial-up even though he sed he can d/l 20gig a day, at the speed he was showing 20gig would take atleast a week, after over 1 hr of d/l  it dropped to 0 and fell off, he tried again for another 3/4 of an hr and it was showing 3hrs to complete untill it dropped to 0 again, i think he gave up.
i think he might have *cough* accidently clicked the T1 box instead of the dsl box.

Hi there:  Interesting I have the same problem and came to this forum thinking might see something to assist me.   I have 5megs up with my ISP and they don't throttle winmx or any other p2p, on my torrent sites I have no problem but to supply my room members with the movies they crawl like turtles.    I was think maybe it was my bandwidth throttle, and I don't understand that fully,   I usually only upload to members and download from my torrent site.   Can anyone suggest the proper bandwidth throttle for a 5 meg up and 5 meg down DSL ultra high speed service.  Thanks for your suggestions.

https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/  go there with winmx off.. then reduce the amount it says somewhat to allow for your torrents.. it may just be them grabbing everything & leaving winmx the por relation.

thanks will try that but just as example I currently have no torrents downloading and a couple seeding they are running at aver of 60 kbps,    now on winmx i have 7 peeps uploading and they are only each pulling 1 kbps, to me that indicates something is wrong.  I should be able to upload 500 kbps or do I understand that wrong?
