I have been seeing that message for the past few days in the update bar (3.1 beta 6)
any ideas?

This seems to also be related to the issues some people have had getting to this site the last day or two.

I was extremely confused as to what the problem was, however it turns out that actually the problem was due to some completely offline test settings i was playing with which should not have had any effect on live operations (and hence were not configured correctly), due to some security flaws in the DNS system that test data managed to poison the real data and was causing the problems for both winmxworld.com and also for winmxgroup.com (the winmxgroup.com issues caused the update bar issues)

I have absolutely no idea at which point in the system the problem got stuck and had the effect (in theory the test data should have been ignored at every stage if it managed to get there) so i don't know the wide ranging impact of it, it may have been that visiting winxworld just caused your computer to lose contact with winmxgroup.com, or it may have been that it messed it up for your entire ISP... either way it would have caused issues for many users. Thankfully your WinMXs operation should not have been effected beyond the update bar as the patch is made so that everything else is redundant including the domain names used, so a single domain name having issues will not cause problems.

in short: i found what was causing both problems and fixed it, give it 3-4 hours at the most and it should be completely resolved

good work KM i had same thing, fixed now, but even when it was showing (unable to etc) i could click on it and still access WinmXGroup ok, sill its fixed, thanks KM

3.1 changed the update bar so instead of loading a web page it replaced it and just displayed the text and when clicked went to the URL, then merely loaded the message/URL in the background and if successful updated it.

the whole idea being to make it much more resilient to failure - a complete failure just giving that message and still going to winmxgroup, and then trying again every 5 minutes until it was able to check - which is perhaps not a great idea for a final release, as a few hundred thousand users loading it every 2 hours is one thing, but if there's an outage and they all start retrying every 5 minutes... every single user within 5 minutes of the problem being fixed... yeh perhaps that's not the best idea i've come up with, good job it didn't get stable enough for a release

anyway it *should* be fixed for everyone now... if not let me know
