It seems there is a work around already to the security on HDDVD, is nothing sacred for the media industry

I was not aware of anyone having done that, so I did.
BackupHDDVD is a tool to decrypt a AACS protected movie that you own, so you can play it back later using
an HDDVD player software.

This is the first version, and it's not very stable yet.

This software don't provide any cryptographic keys, so you have to add your own keys.

If you wish to know more about the method used etc please read the thread pointed to as most questions are answered there.

Once again the content industry is being harassed by anti DRM hackers who feel that stealing folks fair use rights is wrong and work late into the night delivering systems to subvert the monopoly threat, I,m sure the MPAA will have something to say about this.

Companies probe possible high-def DVD hack

The companies behind an encryption system for high-definition DVDs are looking into a hacker's claim that he has cracked the code protecting the new discs from piracy, a spokesman for one of the companies said Thursday.

if the data can be read to play the thing it can be read to copy it

if it is encrypted using even the hardest encryption, it has to be possible for all players to decrypt it, meaning either putting the decryption ability on the disk (which as mentioned above if it can be read to play it, can be read to copy it) or by using a fixed system with the decryption in every single player, in which case you just see how the player is decrypting it and hey presto you have it

all the billions they spend on something that is completely impossible to ever do... you'd almost think they had too much money and were trying to waste it, but of course we all know that's not true because they are constantly moaning about losing money etc...
