Adobe Announce "Potential Flaw"

Perhaps I,m unfair but this undisclosed flaw and the "fix" of telling folks to update to another bloated release is just starting to get silly.

Web users are being urged to upgrade their Adobe reader software as a security flaw is found in older versions of the program.
Millions of people use the reader software to view documents prepared in the popular PDF format.
So far there is no evidence that the bug is being exploited in the wild.

The flaw is found in the web browser plug-in of the Adobe Reader software. Ordinarily this allows PDF documents to be viewed in a browser window.
But by exploiting the flaw hi-tech criminals could use links to PDF files stored on any website to attack vulnerable Windows PCs.
Since then security researchers have investigated and found that it could also be used to view files on the hard drive of a vulnerable PC.

Upgrading to version 8 of the Adobe Reader software removes the risk of falling victim to the flaw.

Its my guess this is a cynical marketing ploy as every other week we hear about one file type or another that can be opened by a broswer being a potential machine hijacker, but never seem to see any real exploits to back a dry "paper" scenario, of course since they added the browser plugin and turned the whole program into a massive pile of junk I have to say frankly its making me think of ditching the rubbish, bring back the simple PDF reader we used to have before some halfwit coded a flaw into it  :twisted:

In any case, it simply don't like to be a little conservative with ram.
And any newer versions don't ever reduce their resource utilisation.

i hate that browser plugin anyway, if i want to look at a pdf document, then i want to save it someplace where i can refer back, not have to return to some obscure site just because i closed that browser window
