ok... I had to reinstall windows due to some problems. Anyway, before i reinstalled i had no problems. NOW forgedaboutdit.
WinMx won't work! Something about a TCP or proxy server, manually configure etc. I have windows xp media edition. I have a firewall installed and i have that set to allow winmx but it still won't work. this is making me crazy! Anybody have any suggestions??? Thanks!

This is the message you get when the TCP tests fail, meaning that something has blocked that...
First make sure you installed a patched version of WInMX from this site:
www.winmxgroup.com  and run through the installation.

If the tests still fail again fill them in manually as below

Now its not impossible for that to be wrong so.. the first thing I'd like you to do is to open WinMX Settings > Incoming TCP and set this to port 6699, then open In/Out UDP and set this to 6257. 

Now open Outgoing TCP and make sure its set to the top option, Dont use a proxy, connect directly.

Restart WinMX and post back here how it goes...

WINMX is a free program.... NEVER PAY FOR IT...   the people trying to sell winmx are scammers.. my dad was tricked into paying for some kind of winmx all he got was link to download limewire.. DONT LET THE SCAMMERS WIN

3.54b4, the "old version" was the last version of winmx made. It has been falsely, and illegaly sold as the winmx4, winmx 4 is winmx 3.54b4, which is free. DO not pay for Winmx. Winmx pay sites claim, when confronted with the fact winmx is free, that they are merely offering technical help, from my understanding they don't. Winmxworld and the chat room hosted under its name are the best sources for help, and of Winmx software. DO NOT PAY FOR WINMX, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THESE SCAMMERS

 the reason James is confused is that most of us know that WinMX latest version is 3.54 beta 4.  Those 'newer' version you have seen are simply a scam to get you to pay. the programs then connect you to either this network.. or more likely ares or limewire or another network..

There is no reason to pay for those either by the way as they are free too.   Imagine for a moment that i know how to hex up a version of a free program.. and i decide to make it say its a newer version.. of course im going to sell a few.. who doesnt want a new version?
The problem is with WinMX it has to connect to the WPN (WinMX Peer Network) and because WinMX was made to only connect to other clients your simplly being asked to pay for something then directed to other networks ..

All you have to do to get WinMX back is download from here:

Then install, it wont restore your files you lost but it will allow you to connect and begin recollecting them..

you call it the "old version" because you have seen a site selling what they got off of us, they took our 3.54 beta and put a pay addon into it and called it a "newer version"
