How to get cleared from Bans
« on: March 29, 2007, 07:14:57 am »
Hi all, can someone tell me how I clear a 'ban' on OpenNap? I switched my folders for about 30 seconds during which my file count dropped, and in that time I got banned!! Now its back to circa 3500, but still the ban stays in place. Thanks.

**EDIT**MH: moved to appropriate area and renamed topic for better help.

Well, you have to wait for the server operator to clear you, which usually happens after 24 hours automaticially. Do see after a day or so if the problem persists.

Cheers :P

How to get cleared from Bans? don't get banned to start with :)

most servers have a time limit that a certain amount of files or GB have to be shared in.
the limit on my server is 31 files or 1 GB in 10 Minutes.
I've seen servers with that limit as tight as 2 minutes..
here's the trick:
before you log on, have your shares all refreshed and loaded.
and log on only ONE server at a time as opposed to using "Select All" and connecting to every server in the list at once.
wait until the list of shares is sent and the server is displayed in green, then log onto the next server, repeat procedure until you are logged on all the servers you want to be on.

why?

if you're already uploading to fellow users, and you're trying to send a list of your shares to 2 dozen servers at once, they're going to send slowly and may not make the time limit. when you log on one at a time, that list can fly (especially if you have no uploads) beating the time limit. the server uses the send x-amount of shares in x-amount of time function as a form of leech control. for your benifit obviously :)
you can view server messages and can see what a server's share requirements there by typing /motd and hitting enter on that window, or, fancier yet, visit the network's website if it's listed there, or click on the network names as seen in the list here:
http://www.gotnap.com/index.php?loc=list

but if you share pedophilia or virii, or are graphically nasty with other users or server staff, i can't help you with that, straighten up, lol :)
