Connection "Loop"
« on: April 15, 2007, 08:33:36 pm »
My WinMX was working fine until I had a Windows update.  My connection seems to drop out every 7-10 minutes, which is very frustating.  My internet connection is broadband, so is continuous.  I usually have loads of people downloading and in my queue, but have no-one now - indicating that there is a problem.

Anyone got any ideas?

Help!!   :(

Hi Smurf,

A bit more info please?

Do you have a router or DSL modem with router like ability?
What version of MX and are you primary or secondary?
What patch are you using? What does it say in the update bar on WinMX under your version.
What Operating system are you using?  XP? Vista?
Do you have any incompletes?

Ok my first suggestion is to reload your patch.  Its not as common as the earlier patches but some microsoft updates have disalebed the patch so try that first.

Secondly remove your incompletes from the transfers screen for now and if things go well you can add them one at a time.  The new patch does remove fakes from your searches however.. it is possible to encounter one at times when the block list is being updated.  So to remove that possibility its best to take them out of the equation.

After you have done this let us know how you get along.

I have reloaded the patch and removed the incompletes from my transfers screen.

There is nothing in my transfers windows and I have entered searches, but it is still dropping out.

Any more suggestions?

just save it to your winmx program folder in place of the file there with the same name, winmx uses it, you don't have to do anything about opening it

Hi, it's me again!

I saved the dll into WinMx and restarted my computer.  Unfortunately I'm still dropping out, and now I can't even get any results from a search.

I love WinMx and I'll be gutted if I can't get it working properly again.

Make sure smurf that yoru port settings were as they were before.  If your on secondary then the search results are usually down to the primary that your connecting through.. try freshing a few times and see if you get better results.

I'm on secondary connection but I've used the link to check if my ports are open.

The incoming on 6699 says is closed, but the outgoing on 6257 is open.

I haven't dropped out for a few hours now and people are taking files from me (albeit slowly - 3-5K rather than the 20-30 I usually see).  I'm queued on a few files but haven't managed to download any yet.  Will keep you posted.

Spoke too soon!!  Keep dropping out again.  Managed to download a few files a good speed, and people were getting off me at good speed.

Suddenly I got the "connecting" at the top and it keeps dropping out again.

Hi

Hope you haven't forgotten about me.

I uninstalled WinMx and reinstalled it.  All seemed ok for a while but then the connection started dropping out again.

I've checked the ports and once again 6699 is coming back as closed but 6257 is open.

I've stayed connected for a while now, but the transfers are excrutiatingly slow - less than 1k.  It's as if my connection is dial-up, but I'm on broadband.

Strange!!!

As your ISP has started throttling you now, and it was not doing so before... about as simple as that :(
