Well after discussing it with a few people I have bought winmx pay back back up with the score server intact. It still has the few hundred accounts so if you still have your userchecksum.ini file you can still update your score!

It should sustain itself (hopefully) although it is using the same server program that handles the scores which really doesn't do a good job. But we will see.

There is still an impressive 2.12 TB record and it will continue to go up when you run the program.

You can choose from 1Mb/s - 10Mb/s.

All this program does it download the list of pay sites from rock's website then when you select your connection and click Start it starts to download the homepage of each of the websites over and over again. It doesn't go in a certain order is completely random.

The best feature of this program is the scores. Smile

When you first open the program you will be prompted to put in a username. This username is what you will be identified on the score page. The scorepage is just a list of all the total users registered on the score server and it gives a big list of how much you have downloaded. There are ranks. So just for fun you can try to be #1 Smile.

the connection dosnt really max out your internet like t makes you think, im on 10mb and the 1mb selection averages about 20-30kbs if i set it to 10mb i avg 500-600

well, the idea is maybe not to crash the website like the word crash implies, (if tht makes sense)
the idea is to download all there monthly allowence on there host so the site closes...

I would prefer that users of winmx spent their spare bandwidth running primary and sharing their files than trying to swat the ever expanding list of scam sites on the internet, better still, existing winmx users time would be better spent making sure new folks knew where the real download site is located.

winmx has no advertising what so ever..

yet these scam sites do..

maybe not the best way to go about it, but if these sites were all closed due to very high traffic, the user would investigsate more and more likely to find there way to a free/good version of WinMX

um... vladd's site is in the list of scam sites... I can see that....

But... why is there a link to his site in the links section:

I am all for his being labeled a scam site, as it certainly is, but I wouldn't provide a link to it on the site or encourage users to visit since he has clearly chosen to be in league with flooders and no longer does any good for the mx community...

Its clear that there is not enough folks operating this bandwidth leeching tool, I think its well known that no site closures have been claimed and so while many enjoy operating this software its not helping us as a community to move forward.

Whilst myself and vladd detest each other I don't really think his site should be on this list either, it does have information to help winmx users besides the advertisements and most just ignore the pie adverts/plugs etc.

If you put folks sites on the list just because you dont like them its not really taking the higher ground, imagine if we did this sort of thing with the blocklist, people would be rightly upset.

A scam site is in my terminology one set up purely to sell you something that is available for free and that they do not own anyway, Vladds site does not fit into this category, it does not directly charge users for winmx although he has let the community down by allowing those who do charge to use his sites former popularity to gain revenue with their scams.

That's my position and I hope its very clear, attacking a rival site is not in the best interests of the community nor what you should be concentrating on.

and thats why i asked for the link to be put back on the home page, i think people have the wrong idea about the program, if the site in the first place had of stayed open, and been as enthsiastic as when it first opened but intrest was lost

Hmm well im sure all here know i dont like vladd but i dont see his site as a out and out scam site .Its not there like others just to sale free P2P programs. It still has some help in fact better help now than when he had a forum. A little old but help. Ive never4 used this program im too busy downloading or uploading to play a game and really thats all this is as gohst said (that no site closures have been claimed and so while many enjoy operating this software its not helping us as a community to move forward.) But im not trying to put anyone down that uses this program ive used worse. I dont think vladd is keeping his site up now i think nobby is i could be wrong.
