An updated patch to replace the outdated Hosts file

You can get this solution from this new website that has been set up...

WinMX Group Website

Just put the file on that web page in to your WinMX Directory (C:\Program Files\WinMX) and restart WinMX, sorted!

this is all very well if you're NOT using RCMS as a chat host or BendMX....

if you are overwriting this dll will break them

looks like a difference with winsock on 9x systems (that includes ME) - i will have to look at it in the morning and see if i can come up with something... for now those users will have to stick to the hosts file :-S

Before we install this new patch (windows XP), should we remove the "One-click" patch, or will this over-ride it?

Also, for the uninitiated (like me) how do you restart WinMX "sorted"?

I hope this will correct my particular problem: While the "One-click" patch works great, WinMX seems to hiccup every few hours and disconnect, then reconnect, usually disrupting my downloading queue and emptying my upload queue.  Not that I'm complaining - a little WinMX goes along way for me!

Viva WinMX!

Quote from: WinMX Group - Known "Issues" - READ THIS FIRST
If you have BendMX or RCMS then DO NOT replace BendMX/RCMS with this patch or it will replace BenxMD/RCMS! Instead replace the file named WS2_32o.dll

Users of WinMX 3.53 using the "olepro32.dll" channel list patch, some users have reported conflicts beteen the 2 patches (while a couple have said it works fine). If you do suffer problems then try removing the "olepro32.dll" patch.

Windows 98/ME Users. Please be aware that this does not seem to function on these operating systems yet. I will look in to resolving this issue tomorrow evening.

One: No patch has any effects on room lists or downloads or uploads.. that is a UDP port issue, have a look at our router/modem and firewall sections of the tutorials.

If your having problems with the patch and your on xp.   Shut down winmx
and go to

Start> Run> type 'cmd'
then in the DOS box type  'ipconfig /flushdns'  hit enter

Then restart WinMX.

Then wait....

Is there a patch that works for Windows 98 yet? Both methods (Hostfile and Winsock DLL) do not seem to work on this OS.

The hosts files do work with 98..

unzip them and place them into your C:\windows  Folder and restart WinMX..
