Also try a different browser if you have a different one.

For what it's worth..

I too was unable to connect over the weekend of June 30/Jul 02, been keenly reading the connection threads, and guess what?...

Connected instantly yesterday and very quickly started downloading. This without installing any patch whatsoever.
