Bandwidth UP and DOWN
« on: July 10, 2007, 06:29:13 pm »
Hi there. I have a problem with my bandwidth. It will go way up for about 20 seconds then crash down to almost nothing for 2 minutes. I am jumping to conclusions that my ISP is throttling P2Ps, but they just upgraded their network 2 ago months, and all has been FAST...until this week.

(I do have a router with ports forwarded for WinMX.)

Any suggestions?

If his happens to all uploads and downloads then this is most likely ISP inteference in whose case, changing them is the best policy.

But is some cases it is also a problem with the user at the other end... so it not a lot to worry about in that case. But such cases are rare.

Cheers :P

Is there any kind of legal issue with ISPs "not delivering" the service they promise...i.e. limiting bandwidth or screwing with it like this???

I'm not any sort of legal advisor, it would depend where you are what laws might or might not apply.... & even then most ISPs hide clauses in the small print permitting such dirty tricks.. if you're stuck in a contract the threat of involving your local trading standards body sometimes results in a sudden willingness to release you from it...

Usually, they include some small and innocent terms in it usually on the lines of, "we prioritise traffic during peak hours"

And they end up nearly blocking winmx downlaod/uplaods throughout the say and not simply during peak hours. Better look through your lisence agreement before taking action or something

Cheers :P
