Hi, sorry to worry you guys but,
Since downloading & installing the new patch "09/07/2007" I can't connect at all.
Also the message "Welcome back from winmxworld" doesn't show.
I am running an older system with wondows 98.
All I see is the yellow flashing light "Finding network connections" out here in the South Pacific islands.

have you tried rebooting? win 9x won't load new hosts settings or unload old ones without a windows restart

Thank you, yes I have re-booted having tried to get on after a few re-starts......still no luck!

did you use the multi install? if so did your winmx version change?
many firewalls will completely block changed programs, so removing any rules for winmx then letting it ask again or manually re-adding rules often cures this kind of thing

Thank you for your help...
I have tried multi-install and yes the version changed to 3.54. (It was 3.53).
I tried deleting and re-installing with Norton Anti-virus turned off for "Auto Protect", "Script Blocking" and "Internet Worm Protection" but still no connection.....
I'm not sure what you mean by manually adding rules?
I have checked the questions asked upon installation such as connection speed etc.
I'm not having much luck so far...

there is a tutorial for setting up norton in the tutorials section.. which guides you through the entry in internet worm protection

Hi there dude Ialso had some issue's with my connections am also running windows 98se user Me Her helped me out try his suggestions to see if this helps you out. Re: Cant connect

Ok Infrontofputer,

I can see what the problem was and you may have it almost sorted..
Here is what i want you to now do.. ok maybe i should ask first do you want to continue to run that version? its older version and will run fine, if you dont use Chat functions. Most chat rooms these days have color and that version of WInMX cant read them.

Lets do this:
If you want to keep that version and get it to connect do this
1. download the appropriate patch from here (if you dont have it saved to your PC) https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html
2. Install this patch with WinMX closed.
3. When it asks for a location to install to be sure it says this exactly: C:\Program Files\WinMX\
* if there are extrabits on the end of that remove them
4. At this time its a good idea to remove WinMX from your firewall rules and allow it to ask on the next step. This ensures the changes we made havent caused your firewall to lock it out.
5. When its installed completely run WinMX.
6. post back and let me know...

If you want to get the newer version of WinMX 3.54 beta 4 installed and working do this:
1. Download this file: httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/WinMX/Beta/3.54%20betas/winmx354beta4.zip
2. WinMX Off, unzip its contents to this location C:\Program Files\WInMX (NOTE: Do not run this file, it simply replaces the winmx.exe in the folder)
3. If it asks would you like to overwrite the files say Yes.
4. Download the appropriate patch installer from here (if you dont already have it): https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html
5 When it asks for a location to install to be sure it says exactly this: C:\Program FIles\WinMX\
* if there are extrabits on the end of that remove them
6. At this time its a good idea to remove WinMX from your firewall rules and allow it to ask on the next step. This ensures the changes we made havent caused your firewall to lock it out.
7. When its installed completely restart WinMX.

Incidently, the reason you cant see the OLEDLG.DLL file in your folders is Windows considers it a protected files. The way to fix that is this
Open a Windows Explorer box.. like say My Computer, now you see the Tools button top left of screen. Click this and choose Folder Options, now click on teh View tab in the new box. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders
Untick 'Do Not Show Hiddn Files Or Folders'
Tick 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
Untick 'Hide Extentions for Known File Types'
Untick 'Hide protected operating system files (not recommended)'

Then click Apply to all folders, then click Apply, and OK

You should now be able to see hidden items and this is a good idea as many viruses like to hide themselves and you can now view the files in the WinMX folder too. When the instructions above this are done you should see inside the C:\Program Files\WinMX folder a file named OLEDLG.DLL, same location as the winmx.exe file.
